Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

Enjoyed that. Phil was superb and what Pep is doing is excellent. Resting those that need it and getting the whole squad in form and ready if needed.

Finals are usually tight affairs and it could take a moment of magic from an unlikely source to win them. Foden looks back on it, Palmer looks like he could come on and make something happen. Phillips is hopefully building up enough fitness to give us all he's got to see a game out alongside Rodri if required.

Would be nice if that donkey Haaland could put a few shots in the back of the net though!!! Good games for him to miss his chances. As long as he nails them in the finals we will be on top of the world!

You are Scrooge and I claim my £5 :O)
I work in a professional environment. Tell me why the fuck our squad can't contain themselves for TWO WEEKS, when they can drink themselves to death? WTF?

It's about standards & levels. If we were to lose the next three matches, what're you gonna say then? We were just unlucky? \0/

Mate, we're shooting ourselves in the foot because some of our players are prioritising booze over professionalism, when we could possibly be on the cusp of history!

Is risking all of that worth it because we couldn't resist having the mother of all piss ups for TWO WEEKS FFS? :-/

There are at least three players on that brighton squad that I would be happy to bring on- Enciso, Caicedo and even Mac Allister. Sure, we weren’t at our best, but they are young talent.

Good game, very nice club Brighton but who were those 2 fools giving it out to Brighton families in the first half, constantly? Pathetic and embarrassing, not seen in second half, turfed out for being tossers I expect; well done to the big bloke in the yellow top for having a strong word. Hundreds of empty seats near me not taken, given it was sold out I assume a lot didn’t travel due to the league being won. Brighton play a lot better football than rags, a fucking lot

Who said they were too pissed to travel?

If we lose to United and Inter, it won't be because the players had a drink on Sunday night.

I fully know the effect booze has at any level but nobody knows why they were not in the squad, you're only assuming that they were too pissed. Most teams would field a weakened side and rest players for a relatively meaningless game like this, happens all the time.

Also, they're humans not robots. This might be the psychological pressure release they needed... It's not like they're doing it after every match or going on week long benders!

Someone said it in an earlier post and I fully agree, If we lose the 2 finals, it won't be because of this incident. Lastly, a lot of booze to them is probably fucking nothing compared to what the general public class as a skin full. Chill people!

We won the league. We've got 10 days before the fa cup. I'm ok with that performance and that fact that some guys had a better time than others!

I think we've all got some kind of syndrome (china, stockholm, munchausens?!) where we remember how bad we were against chelsea those games before the UCL final and we're fearing the worst again. I think we'll be fine - that was a complete tactical brain fuck by pep. This time round i think we're playing our best 11 twice - and we'll live with the results.

Definitely.

There was no prior warning of that CL lineup. He handled it in a similar fashion. But he had played Tuchel before and was expecting Chelsea to play a certain way so set us up to dominate the ball and have more opportunities to create chances as we had lost 2-1 in the league and 1-0 in the cup.

This is different. The FA Cup he may well do something different but we haven't played United with this system yet. But for a bad call we have dominated both games against them and I think Pep recognises this team is his best in terms of balance and character so will trust them to play the way he thinks we need to in order to win the treble and won't worry too much about what they can do to us.

At the moment it is about getting the whole squad rested physically and mentally whilst building fitness in the wider squad. And on Tuesday the hard work will begin. Not a chance they lose focus for the two finals. What more motivation could they possibly need. They are on the brink of history, that's all you need to say.

Who said they were too pissed to travel?
Nobody but him, he's just jumping to conclusions. People are focusing on the "drunk all the beer in Manchester" bit in the video but nobody has mentioned the part at the end where he said they discussed how he wanted everybody ready for the match at Brighton. He also said at the end that players were injured, slight knocks to recover from, that sort of thing.

It's perfectly obvious, they had a night celebrating 3 days ago, he rested a few, gave some of the others a chance and had we gone 2 or 3 up, looking at the bench I'm sure he would have given some of the kids a chance too, as many teams do at the end of season in meaningless matches. If they had been that pissed the media would have been all over it like a rash. People putting 2+2 together and coming up with 7.

Were you there or are you just jumping to conclusions. The players that really matter aren't needed until June 3, don't understand why some are losing the plot because some players may have had one piss up.
Were you there? No! BUT as a matter of fact our manager said some of the players went out to continue the celebrations, AFTER the celebrations at the Etihad & they drank Manchester dry!

Three days before a penultimate PL match. Two weeks before the FA Cup final & three weeks before the CL Final.

Are you telling me the mother of all title piss ups couldn't wait 23 days? If we lose the next three match, whatcha gonna say then fella?

Excellent post, probably the best of the night. That's me for tonight anyway, nothing like ending on a high.

Don't like what i have seen the last two games. Very reminiscent of two years ago when we won the league and then fell of a cliff. full team out at Brentford and intensity back. two games from immortality, don't screw up again.

How did we fall off a cliff exactly. Rotated for Newcastle and won. Lost at Brighton through a dodgy red card.

Pep tends to learn from his errors. Look at the two away games in Madrid to see a prime example.

If you can't find focus for the FA Cup and CL final you may as well quit. The reason we lost the CL final was in the lineup and subsequent assault on De Bruyne.

Typical end of season game, we weren’t anywhere near full pelt but kept our unbeaten run going. Hopefully Phil and Stonesy are fine.

Sky comms were fucking unbelievable, have they never seen a goal scored from outside the box before ? Good strike from the lad but you see 30 or 40 goals a season like that throughout the league. The usually morose Alan Smith was actually laughing out loud he was so happy Brighton had scored. Very odd.

That's what the real issue is here, Colwill had a massive hold of Haaland just as the ball left Palmers foot. So surely if the goal isn't given, It must be a penalty.

Plus if he's given that a foul then surely a foul from Caicedo on Bernardo when he pulled him back.
It was a genuinely shocking decision and it neatly highlighted how VAR can be manipulated by only focusing on a single element or phase of a run of play.

If the audio had been available it would have shown the discussion to have centred solely on Haaland’s alleged shirt pull, and not the identical action from Colwill a few seconds earlier. Whereas, in real time, the referee would have subconsciously allowed for both players pulling each others’ shirt when deciding whether to blow for a foul.

Focussing on a single action naturally gives a distorted picture of whether a clear and obvious error has occurred.

First of all you're clearly missing the point about drinking Manchester dry - it's a missive, an exaggeration to say they had a celebration. You and only you are assuming it was "the mother of all piss ups".

Second, it's 3 days before a meaningless end of season match, a match in which most clubs would play a few of the players on the sidelines like Rico. A piss up 2 weeks before a match isn't going to affect anybody, but it's only you that is assuming they were all completely rendered. There are a hundred reason why we could lose a final, a few drinks a fortnight before won't be one of them.
