It's definitely kicking a can down the road, but Txixi and Pep kicked the Kompany can past Harry Maguire and others and landed at Ruben. They kicked the Aguero can past a few, played with no striker for 2 seasons and 52 goals later we can see why.

It worked out with Aguero, we simply didn’t play with a striker and we won the league and eventually brought in Haaland. Long term the delay in replacing Kompany worked out but it cost us the league in 19/20.

The difference this time is replacing multiple players is much more difficult.
