Boycott it completely
City vs a Select CXV surely !or
City vs 9 clubs letter signers XI
We should sell out now all the new younger fans have jumped on board.
You think an English football tradition that has 125 years of history and a beautiful trophy should be scrapped?Scrapping it would be easier. A money making con.
Why on Earth would we do that?Boycott it completely
womens Euro's were at Wembley last yearWith it being at Leicester last year, novel but a poor location for two teams travelling from NorthWest, was there not talk of this becoming a moveable feast? Seemed like a decent idea and something that appeared to garner favour on these pages, if some logic could be applied to location. But I guess it's back to wembley, is it? Can't recall now why it switched last year, refreshing as the change seemed...
£248k to 124 clubs in the FA Cup proper, just £2k each from and gate and sponsorship pool of at least £3m. That is why it is a con as people like you think the money goes to good causes when it is a tiny fraction. You think an English football tradition that has 125 years of history and a beautiful trophy should be scrapped?
I think it should be played at different venues to Wembley (with a Manchester v London tie this year it should be somewhere like Coventry), but this trophy/fixture should never be scrapped. Even though I disagree with it being at Wembley, I always enjoy it.
Every single club in Europe has this and their equivalent on their honours lists.
Plus the money you think is a con is distributed to community initiatives and FA related charities all in England and Wales.
That’s £2k for each club more than they’d have if it was scrapped. Plus £1.25m is given to the clubs involved who are said to distribute it to good causes of their own.£248k to 124 clubs in the FA Cup proper, just £2k each from and gate and sponsorship pool of at least £3m. Some countries have Super Cups, they were never "shared" as no one wanted to win them or play in them. Having a shared "honour" made it meaningless along with 7 subs long before COVID made it a kick-about friendly.
It was so worthless that clubs refused to play in it until they were contractually obliged to, and that meant they took almost all the money generated. Really it should be awarded to City if it is a real trophy as we are the only team that qualified.
Bizarre how I watched City wallop WBA 6-1 in 1968 in the Charity shield and we all considered it a lark. Nobody added it to the trophy lists then. It wasn’t until Maureen came along calling it a trophy that it seemed to get elevated.
Albion goalkeeper John Osborne broke his knuckle saving an Owen shot and played the rest of his career with a plastic knuckleIndeed and a certain Bobby Owen scored twice on his debut.
Won't it be the 5th?Arsenal - 6 August I believe
The prize money to the clubs does not go to good causes, nor the TV or sponsorship money. It is likely to be closer to 6 or 7% is earmarked for good causes, and there is no audit process for where it is spent so could be closer to zero in reality. That’s £2k for each club more than they’d have if it was scrapped. People are also paid: Police, stewards, cleaners, kiosk workers, presenters etc.
It was our club that jumped at the chance to be in this when other clubs declined in 1972, and we won it and it’s on our honours list.

Same with the European Super Cup, it didn't exist the last time we won, and when united won it, they played one game at home against a team with no country, no honour in such honours.

Or against the winner of a mini competition between Larne, TNS and Celtic.City v Wrexham would have been the purists choice.
