We played more of a diamond in midfield in the CL final than the box W-M formation. I wonder if the idea would be that Rice would be one of the side 8s and play as box-to-box, rather than thinking of him doing Stones' usual role. Maybe Rodri dropping into CB and Rice at 6ish when OOP.
Think we are all forgetting that Stones is actually a CB and regardless of how well hes done. He's an even better CB and thats where he should be playing. I like Rice and think he is the kind of player that would fit in perfectly into our squad. I also think playing two DM's seems to be the way Pep is going and Rice would give us two top DM's with Stones clearly able to cover if needed. Its a deal that makes sense (even though i expect him to go to Arsenal).

What would have been the plan with Bellingham then if we had signed him? Pep must have a plan and maybe things Rice can play further forward as well?

Loads of people said this about Grealish, but it's turned out pretty well. If Pep and the top brass are fine with the outlay as they can see something in him that will add real value to the squad, then I'm fine with it.Seriously hope we’re not in for Rice at that £100 million price tag!

we have seemingly been scouting Joao Mario from Porto.

Just a thought but maybe Walker wants to leave to join Sheffield United as hes won everything and he did say he wanted to play there. Maybe that idea for him has accelerated as Sheffield United are now in the prem.

Depends on what system Pep wants next season mate and if Walker alone gets much game time let alone another £50m odd player to sit on the bench?
Me a non city ? It’s not that he won’t get games or is not good enough ( I don’t get the hype but I haven’t really watched him) it’s at the price involved he would surely have to replace Rodri which is not happening maybe there is something going on tactically that I don’t get that gets them both in the team
Personally don’t think we will get Declan but if you think if we bought him he would only play if Rodri didn’t play?! Rice can could play in a two with Rodri he could play in the stones role..

Stones has been playing centre back and dm at the same time. Whay your suggesting is Stones and Rice doing the job Stone has and can do on his own. So sacrificing an attacking player for a defensive one. Unlikely. If we were to buy Rice it would be because Pep want him to play further forwrd in Gungogan's position. I think whilst he's part of our squad and winning things he won't consider moving. That's the move he'd want when he's no longer in our plans. There are times this season when we've been better without him, but he's still the man you want on the pitch when you're facing anyone with pace as he showed against Vinicius and also Mbappe in the World Cup. Not starting the CL final will have been a blow to him, but he did get on the pitch. Akanji helped create the goal but was otherwise a liability all game to be honest. If we go into next season without Walker in the squad I'd be concerned.

I think our plans pretty much depend on what Gundo and Bernado are doing. Walker could easily play on the right hand side rotating with Akanji but that would mean Stones minutes coming mainly from the midfield pivot position.
I think it will all start falling into place when we know and that’s why we are sort of in the running for Rice because again aren’t 100% sure where we are yet.
And Rice being an alternative to Bellingham who wouldn’t have played that deep if signed for us. In the nicest possible way then the club need to be a bit more forceful with Gundo and any clubs wanting Bernardo if its going to impact our summer business? Our rivals are strengthening already and i`m sure plans have been in place a while but wont be helped if we allow people to dilly dally over the next few weeks while we stand still waiting.
