I think Walker stays but we will buy a right back. Almost like what Gomez is on the left, someone to come in and understudy for a year.
I would generally agree but then we’d likely have to find a more permanent replacement next summer. As we’re apparently already in negotiations, I’d be tempted to test the waters at Chelsea and offer them a big sum for both Kovacic and Reece James. Losing the latter might be a bitter pill for them to swallow, but it would give them the immediate means to buy Rice, were he amenable to returning, and allow them to start their rebuild under Pochettino. Much like Walker, James would then become our right back for the next 5+ years. All hypothetical, of course.

Chelsea also have Gusto coming in this summer as well?

Stones has been playing centre back and dm at the same time. Whay your suggesting is Stones and Rice doing the job Stone has and can do on his own. So sacrificing an attacking player for a defensive one. Unlikely. If we were to buy Rice it would be because Pep want him to play further forwrd in Gungogan's position. Why I find it unlikely.
What im suggesting is Rice gives Pep a lot of options, hes a quality player and clearly Pep likes versatile players. Still unlikely though and fully expect him to go to Arse.

Indeed. Walker has been one of the most astute pieces of business we have done, so It would make sense if we were to attempt something similar with James. People would probably self-combust on here if we spent 100 million on a right back this summer, but those fortunate enough to still be here in 2030 might consider it ‘a steal’. Just musing.

Did James ever sign a new contract?

They could be getting £200million from selling Kovacic, Havertz and mount along with Lukaku possibly going to Saudi

they are not going to be getting the fees they want for Mount & Havertz mate! People know they have to sell and i think Mount will go for a max £40m with only a year left? They can ask what they want to they are aslo needing to sell for FFP and there is no way they get close to £200m for them 3 imo.

Reece James would be the perfect Walker replacement. The club apparently very fond of him but not sure what the views are now around him.

Really hope the mount deal goes through ASAP so we don’t get involved. Has been said before pep thinks he’s a good player.

Arsenal playing a clever game here. They know we won't move unless we have clarity over Bernardo and Gundugan. They are trying to push through Rice before we are willing to show our hand. Media reporting Bernardo to PSG as talks ongoing.

its frustrating at times that we dont do our in business until the outs are sorted?

From a business and financial sense, it's sensible. Imagine splashing out on Rice, adding his wages to the wage bill and then bernie and gundo signing new contracts? The books would look ugly.

Granted frustrating from fansvpoint of view

Except he’s just not very good. He’s a modern day Micah Richards, all braun and very little end product.. also injury prone. £100m? No thanks. All opinions though hey.
