Manchester City Invitational Community Shield

This season`s Manchester City Invitational Community Shield will be held at The Etihad Stadium on Saturday 5 August at 15:00 pm.

On this occasion, Manchester City, the winners of the Premier League and FA Cup, will host Arsenal, the Premier League runners up.

City in the Community and Greater Manchester charities will benefit from the entire proceeds of the game and this special event after operating and hosting expenses have been met.

Manchester City are working closely with community and fans groups to make this a memorable occasion for all to enjoy. Ticket and further event informations will be provided by 14th July.

this makes football sense ( no punt tended ), i like it. Has a feel of tradition about it unlike wembley 5.30pm !

Imagine the disappointment for the one fan that loves going to london, has lots of time on his hands and has regular chats with himslef :)

Liverpool and Everton were the two teams who black balled FA plans to have their own Pools coupon to rival Littlewoods back in the day. They wanted the sugar daddy all to themselves, as an organic club of course. So yes, they have form for sticking it to football authorities. Hence why it’s one of the few clubs feared at administrative levels.

very interesting mate, i didnt know about that and im an over 50's blue.

Littlewoods pools ! Always remember when it snowed and games got called off a panel would sit to forecast the results so that the pools for that weekend didnt get cancelled. Im just waiting for the day that the FA think that this would be a better way of dictating the prem league table and teams dont actually play. A panel decides who wins / loses / draws... Hell we wont be winning the league when that starts !

????

If a meaningless international can be held at ragland, why not an even more meaningless friendly.

Sunday afternoon at 5-30 would be perfect for City fans, we could be back in town on the piss by 8-00pm.

Sell out crowd.....see what the fucking chicken shit Tarquinius think about that !!

Over to you FA.
Because there’s no reason for it. It would be pandering to us for (why?), and then it’d be the Arse kicking off.

Wembley is the home of the FA, not the Swamp, not the Etihad, not Villa Park, not the Emirates either.

Let’s act like a club that’s just won the Champions League, shall we

Malcolm Crosby at Sunderland remains the only manager to get the sack (when at Sunderland) after his team "lost a game" as adjudged by the Pools Panel

It is not clear why you are backing the FA on this or determined to go head to head against fellow Blues.
Debate is healthy though so here goes.

Lets be clear. The FA is London centric. The BBC was London centric. Many organisations and bodies are. The BBC, for example, recognised this as have branches of the Civil Service, and have changed their business and working strategies to recognise that a world exists outside of the M25.

The FA is no different. It has even, with success, played England matches across the country though this was largely forced by the re-building of Wembley.

The Charity Shield was traditionally hosted by the league winners.

Arsenal has not even "qualified" for this season`s Community Shield just as Liverpool dd not a few years ago. City can not play themselves. The opponents are there by invitation not because they have won anything this season.

So, yes, Manchester City, the double winners, the treble winners, should have a major say in this community / charity match.

My post about the Manchester City Invitational Community Shield appears to have been`lost` on you given your response of ????. Others got it straight away !

Whilst playing the FA Community Shield out of town at the swamp would not normally be my first thought, the simple fact is that England did play there on Monday night and that was fine for the FA. It could be hosted at Old Trafford. The crowd would be as high as what it will be at Wembley and good causes would still benefit. There would also be something very sweet about the Treble winners performing there before the season kicks off properly.

Arsenal should fit in with the FA Cup winners and Premier League winners. Once again the FA has failed to read the room and given very little thought to the fans from Manchester. Until their self interest is challenged this will continue to happen.

Something Better Change...

And the shield was traditionally held at the home of the champions not the home of the FA.
