If West Ham are expecting us to bid, why are they supposedly wanting a third bid from Arsenal to end the saga

Not suggesting he'd know the "complete ins and outs" but seems he knows enough to have the general gist. If he hasn't passed that on, or doesn't know, fair enough.

Not sure who’s briefed you that mate but I can categorically guarantee that we won’t be firming up our very clear interest. That’s come from somebody today at the club that is ‘in the know’ and a close mate I trust implicitly.

It correlates with what I’ve heard which is Rice’s camp hasn’t had a single call from our end up until the weekend. Tolmie knows who my sources are and they are nowhere near city’s side of things but I’d heard phone calls were not happening whatsoever between city and the players people.

If Tolmie is correct and he has form for being just that, the lack of calls could change very fast, but all the chatter last week from others looks very shaky as of now.

Sorry mate. I understand your info is passed on in good faith but the part about Kalvin being told he won’t get opportunities next season is just complete BS.

I literally spoke to Kalvin one week ago and he has communicated to the club he is 100% staying to fight for his place and he has been assured that he will remain a key part of the first team squad by Pep himself. He’ll get more game time next season if he impresses in training and if he takes the opportunities he’s given.

I hope so. For some reason I quite like Phillips. He has that Grealish thing to his character, seems a very down to earth lad. I hope he makes it.

We are or were as the case now is interested in Rice. For a reason unknown to me (could be fee being asked, other preferred targets, player preferring Arsenal plus many other factors that influence things) we have decided not to do the deal.

I understand that but if Pep has given Phillips his backing then why go near Rice at all?

Just from a logical standpoint it makes total sense to have no interest in him. They like him and I think West Ham have used that as leverage to instigate a bidding war. Especially after a season like ours makes no sense to aim for a DM worth 100m before anything. I think Gundogan out and Kovacic in was the obvious answer. Gvardiol in now would sort the rest. Any additional target would then depend on outgoings and that’s totally fine

We don’t have any mate remember, it’s been drummed into the sheep that City are a third division club , our history means nothing pre 1992 , none of the “big” clubs had to endure Swales and what happened after him for over 20 bleeding years , we were on the cusp mid seventies and on , when the likes of Barnes and Owen were shifted out because shredded wheat head fucked us financially bringing big Malc back , you only have to look at our attendances mid to late seventies to see how big a club we were , and the season we came back after Luton when we averaged more than darling fucking Arsenal. Could be that City are just watching to see if Arsenal bid or give up... If Arsenal cannot find the agreement, im guessing they'll pounce?

But it did sound like in most reports this morning that Arsenal are eventually gonna end up paying 120 odd mil .

Phillips seems to think this whole “City players often take a year to adapt” thing means he’s just guaranteed minutes next season and he’s going to be integral to the team. He needs to take the fucking hint, he isn’t even wanted here and won’t play if he stays.

I’m not sure that’s the case, I think he just wants to fight, because he wants to be at that top level. It must be a bitter pill to swallow to say actually, I’m not good enough to play in that team. These guys are all highly competitive compared to the average person and most wouldn’t take that lying down. But you have to think, it’s not been every player that’s taken a year, just some - Stones, Ake, Cancelo, Rodri, Gundo, Bernardo, Mahrez, Grealish, you could probably put on that list. However, they all still played a fair amount. Rodri didn’t have the best first season, but he featured in 52 games. There’s a big difference with that and Phillips.

Has he been given Pep's backing? Because I haven't seen it anywhere.

And it sounds like Txiki is conflicted.. It's not as crystal clear like this is the guy we want.. so it's a battle of a useless player vs a semi useful player.

That would make a whole lot more sense then.. we're feeling out the situation but we're not sold on it 100%.
