I’m not saying there was one. On the face of it, the clubs probably thought dealing with issues in-house was a good idea. I expect that none of them ever thought that this kind of thing could/would happen to them. I would like to think that this whole episode might make some of them think differently, and join City on wanting independent regulation.

Also, just a thought here. While I could understand the PL maybe including this in their investigation as it ultimately didn't get judged on at CAS due to time-barring, the payments were in 2012 and 2013 in respect of the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons. UEFA FFP existed then but CAS ruled it was time-barred. However, Premier League FFP didn't even exist until the start of the 2013/14 season so surely that post-dates those payments, hence meaning that from a Premier League point of view there is no case to answer on this particular issue?
 
I imagine the likes of Lawton and Ziegler, amongst many others, have been digging relentlessly since the PL charges were announced. The fact that this is all they have managed to come up with makes me more confident than ever that there is no smoking gun. It’s just a rehash of the UEFA charges, and I expect us to be cleared again.

This is what I thought too. To be honest, I don’t get half of this shit, FFP is just a load of made up bollocks. To me, it reeks of desperation, they are pinning their hopes on a sponsorship deal ten year back before the prems FFP came into place.

If we get cleared, I don’t think the accusations will ever stop. It’s going to keep rolling for years and this is what all this is about, tarnishing our reputation.

I think your taking it to an extreme there, I would say in this hypothetical case that if somehow it got through the enquiry period with no evidence (and who would sign that off) that an application would be made to strike out the charge due to insufficient evidence that would be upheld and the verdict would be damning to the other side (even if you went down wild conspiracy everyone was against us, it would get out to the courts that one due to the unfair nature).

You may find this has been done in our case since the charges and on the day of the independent panel that we will face far less then the 115 charges. However, dependent on what the accusation is at that point we where be the ones with burden of proof (that doesn’t mean we have to do it beyond doubt).

We then have my issues with the links between the independent panel and PL (which is not an accusation of conspiracy or corruption, just the slight marginal gains the PL will have).
