Istanbul CL Final chaos | City Matters statement (p 133)

Political reasons? Erdogan wants to show his country can equal other EU nations in hosting big sporting events because that’s his aim, to join the EU. UAE meanwhile want to foster better relations with Turkey and have signed some important bilateral trade deals recently so can’t afford the risk.

Erdogan needs to have a re-think then. Istanbul proved Turkey CAN'T host big sporting events.

Don't think it goes any deeper than City and UEFA's own self-interests myself.

City fan says he was detained, beaten and deported from Istanbul 'for no reason'

Fucking disgraceful. Thankfully he is here to tell the tale. He could've easily disappeared and never have been found.

Another shocking report here, hope the lady is okay and recovering well. Events like this should never take place in third world countries, let's remove all the niceties and get to the facts of the matter. Hopefully similar won't happen in Athens but I won't hold my breath.

There has to be some responsibility, Ceferin's head should roll but it won't.

I’ll be honest we are going on a family holiday in October to Antalya region, after Istanbul I’m not looking forward to it, just thought the whole place was a shambles, walking the streets constantly looking over your shoulder, we were targeted on the metro to be be mugged but we sussed it and got a few blues together to make sure we got where we needed to be. The buses etc didn’t help and they way we got ripped off at the stadium, Turkey looking to do the Euros fucking good luck with that! The EU need to seriously consider if they want them as member state, I know I wouldn’t.

Awful story on the bbc, sorry I can't post it...... can someone one please.
A disabled City fan fell walking over the rubble to the ground fell and ended up hospitalised. She was with her grandchildren who were not allowed in the ambulance and the hospital stay sounds horrendous left sat in her own urine due to lack if attention.
Utterly disgraceful by uefa.

That's the one, many thanks.

It's a pity if that was your experience but the vast majority of city fans had a wonderful time in Istanbul. No reason why turkey shouldn't look at having the euros, had our game been played at Besiktas or Galatasaray would have been easy travel options, the problem was playing at the ataturk stadium. The coastal resorts such as those near antalya are much like many others in the Mediterranean.

If they play games all over Turkey though travelling to them will be a nightmare Christ going 15 miles took 3 hours! I’m hoping your right about our resort I know I’ll not be leaving it

I’ve done 5 beach holidays in Turkey. One was a 5* all inclusive so no need to leave the hotel. The others were Marmaris twice and Ovacik (near Olu Deniz) twice. Ate and drank out at loads of places and never any issues. On one of the Ovacik holidays, we did a Jeep safari day trip and it was one of the best day trips I’ve ever done while on holiday. Obviously, I can’t make any 100% guarantees but I’m pretty sure you’ll be fine.

The worse thing that happened to me (away from the UEFA sponsored chaos) was sneezing (quite loudly) in a street one night. This little gang of preteens pissed themselves laughing then followed me and wife for about half an hour shouting "Achoo!" and laughing their heads off. They weren't threatening, though and we both thought it was funny. I found out later that blowing your nose in public is taboo, so maybe sneezing isn't something they see often. Weird, wonderful city

These are two WhatsApps to mates back home the day after the match, one about 9:30 and one about 2pm, so they are a pretty close immediate reaction to what we went through and without discussing with other fans. Reading through this thread, the same words crop up..chaos, carnage, no organisation, dehydrated, unfinished surface, war zone. As much as I loath that kind of shit, I'd like to see a 'word cloud' of all our accounts...
Shithole

A wonderful hour from the 68th minute to leaving the stadium.

For people who spent a total of nearly half a day waiting for a bus, travelling on one with no water, or wondering where to find one, I'm really not sure that "wonderful" is the right word.

Like we said 'it was fantastic night cos we won.'
'It would have been a ******* nightmare had we lost.'

Convinced there'd have been loads of trouble, on those buses, had we lost.

I raised this as a point to Sportsworld mentioning I saw a poor young woman holding one of their signs getting harassed and overwhelmed by numbers. We asked a question to her but before she could answer in full there was a group building around us and we got pushed aside. Could have been a different story if tempers were raised. Their staff were put at serious risk I thought.

In Porto there were hundreds of club staff posted all over the place, inside and outside the stadium, pre and post match, and directing people to pre-assigned buses, which had free food and drink packs when you boarded
Wonder why it was so different for people this time?
Were the club not allowed to bring their own security staff?
Or did they try and cheap it out by contracting to Sportsworld who themselves did it on the even cheaper?
I got the metro there and back, best decision we ever made - even though we were strictly told beforehand and especially afterwards by UEFA not to use it - but still interested in the club’s own potential involvement in this fiasco for so many
