Veratti has been in decline for a while now, shame, brilliant player at his peak
That said quite a few younger players have gone to Saudi, not all retirement paydays
Neves, Malcolm, Saint-Maximin etc

They've all got their issues though. Malcom is kind of a joke after that awful Barcelona spell, Saint-Maximin is injury prone. Edouard Mendy has been a bit exposed and is no longer considered good enough for any club that can match his Chelsea wages.

Then there's the category of players who have seemed on the verge of the big move for years but no clubs rate them enough to actually pay the transfer fee, and they've headed to Saudi as a way to get out. Neves and Milinkovic-Savic.

The Saudi clubs know exactly who to target. It's like a TV show where you think all the important characters are being killed off but, when you look at it in more detail, you realise everyone who's dying had reached the end of their storyline anyway and nobody who still has more to give is going anywhere.

The one that I really thought was a shame was Brozovic, but he is almost 31.

No problem. It is what your post deserved.

You have clearly been watching a different player for the past several seasons. I am not fully convinced your post was actually a serious one so I wont waste my time.
Watching a different player - Yep, just me ( and Pep and the rest of Europe’s top managers who are not prepared to pay €30M for him). You are clearly delusional.

I like this take.

Some fucking short memories on here regarding Laporte, some disgraceful takes imo.

Remember the season before last when the guy played the run-in on basically one leg because we were fucked defensively? Delayed surgery, had a HUGE part in us winning the league and ended up ultimately costing him last season imo

He's been a great player for us

Any true City fan knows this, if you don't you're a party time fan.

Laporte has been amazing for us at times.

There's no law that says a club has to match their previous wages though, so he could do a couple of years now and set his grandkids grandkids up for life and still only be 27 when he came back to Madrid for a "more reasonable" wage.

I thought it was part of Spanish labour law that you can't be hired for less than half your previous salary, to avoid exploitation I suppose not to protect millionaire footballers. But Spanish labour law nevertheless. Could be wrong, though.

Yeah just the 180 appearances for Laporte under Pep. Clearly doesnt rate him.

As for judging Laporte based on interest from other clubs, have you learnt nothing in the past several years. The likes of Barca, Madrid and Juventus have blown hundreds of millions on pure rubbish. Lets not use them as the yard stick.
