I can see the club thinking it makes sense to have the message put out there that we're not at all desperate for new signings, if need be we'll pretty much go with what we have. Other clubs thinking that's our position would be much more beneficial in negotiations than them knowing we're desperate for four new players. Doesn't mean we're not actively looking to recruit, though.
 
Strange noises coming out of the club. If Walker, Cancelo and Laporte all leave on top of the departures of Gundogan and Mahrez it leaves us very short and incredibly vulnerable if we get any injuries.

We have a very strong first XI, good cover in a few positions and very inexperienced after that. How we expect to be competitive in all competitions with a squad that is likely to be 3 players short of where we started last season? It’s asking an awful lot of KDB, Bernardo and Haaland because a long term injury to any of those 3 and we’re in trouble.

We’ve lost an awful lot of goals and assists in Gundogan and Mahrez which Kovacic doesn’t really replace. He’ll be much better cover for Rodri and a decent 8 but he’s never been a goal scorer.

Our strategy of waiting for the right player has generally served us well (19/20 season apart). I wonder is there that little quality out there that we need to sit tight and hope for the best? The problem with top class players is there are very few of them and when they’re on the market there’s usually competition as we’ve seen with Bellingham and Rice.

Our scouting has been pretty mixed, we picked up the likes of Zinchenko, Dias, Jesus Alvarez and Sané before they caught fire. Recent gambles like Gomez or Phillips haven’t worked. Most of the rest of the squad have been picked up at the top of the market or release clauses.

The one thing I can’t understand is that none of the departures should have been surprising so why have the club, seemingly at least, been so blindsided? There doesn’t appear (from the outside at least) to be much contingency planning.

There’s a glaring lack of creativity without De Bruyne which needs to be addressed considering his age and his recent injury issues. The briefs suggest that Foden covers Mahrez and Bernardo covers Gundogan but also covers right wing. The players are at risk of being stretched very thin.

Our players had to dig in a lot last season and delivered the treble. It seems strange that we’re asking them to do it again but with less rest and more intensity.

He’s giving them credit. It’s the best medical team in Europe I’d venture to say. It doesn’t dismiss the fact that variance is a thing.

Pretty plugged in? Name 6 things he's EVER gotten correct.

The guys a chancer. Always has something negative to say about city. Enjoys sticking the boot in when he can and his opinions are dog shit.

On top of that he's a sports journalist, the lowest of the low when it comes to "Journalism"

Why choose to use a " reporter " who clearly doesn't have any affiliation with City, but more to the point doesn't make any attempt to be professional and simply disregard his natural bias, and try to report either factually or not at all. His fucking sly digs demonstrate his lacking in his chosen profession.

This is the aspect which really pisses me off about him, Christ even the MUEN had Stuart Brennan who was very decent about City imo.

The Athletic and Sam can simply fuck off, and not be missed.

This summer off the top of the bat he was pretty much first Journalist with the below this year:

Walker wanting to go
Lillo coming back
Moving for Rice once Gundo Left
Not having anyone else lined up when Rice move failed (Veiga stories were floating about everywhere else)

I'm not saying he's a nice bloke or that I enjoy his articles but to discount what he's saying is just personal bias he's got a better record than anyone this summer really.

He just wrote an article implying City fans were racist for not liking Mahrez in the same way they like Haaland. When City scored in the CL final he didn’t even comment on it.

You’re detached from the media and the mood over there so don’t have the same connection we do here so likely you won’t pick up on the same things. A lot of us here are life long fans, who go to a lot of games, so naturally we’re more sensitive to people who, well, don’t really like the club.

If this is the case then certainly a beyond fair response and thanks. It’s the people blindly raging and referencing his current or former allegiance ad nauseam and dismiss everything as a result of it that are a bit ….much

Over here we’re surrounded by the British media and by and large they really hate City. You actually get better coverage and commentary in the US. Hopefully we see some change with Peter Drury taking on the PL games for Sky.

We moved for Rice before gundo left,
Walker is still here and doesn't seem to be pushing for a move.
Window isn't finished so he's speculating
That's 3/4 wrong, + missing 2 so that's 1/6.

We could argue that surely some of those are small disprecency. But surely his entire job and reputation is on accuracy.
Besides none of those are scoops. Everyone could tell you we wanted rice and stories were floating last year, Bayern have courted Walker before, and again it's plainly obvious we didnt' have a back up to rice. So what's he actually done other than apply some logic to a situation?
 
Doku would be a dream transfer. Didn’t think Pep would target someone like him. Would love it to happen
