Yeah, but 2nd choice keepers are always hard to keep if they turn out to be good.

Txiki has lists of players to replace pretty much everyone in the squad.

Ortega would be mad not to take this opportunity and if we got £20m for a keeper who’s played about 10 games for us, then we’ll let him go.

Agree.

Bayern are supposedly baulking at Sevilla's valuatuon of €20m, so not sure are expecting to pay £20m for Ortega. Which may be the end of it, following some minor being unsettled for all of 5 minutes. He strikes me as an extremely level headed guy, so wouldn't worry. Expect him to start tomorrow night.

20m not a chance, we literally just sold a kid for 19m, basically we are weakening ourselves and then all other teams know that we need a second choice keeper and charge accordingly, there is literally no upside to this deal for us and bayern can go and whistle for it or pay 50m.

West ham know we need paqueta at this moment in time and are charging accordingly, same as every other team and bayern will get no special treatment, if they want him and he wants to go they will pay accordingly, if they want a cheap deal il think theres a certain ddg not doing v much at the mo
We will see how it pans out. My guess is City won’t stand in his way, should he ask to leave.

We would then scour the market and make our choice of replacement, along with Txiki’s list.

If the keeper doesn’t work out, Ederson can play in the cups. Obviously, we’d be a bit snookered if he got a significant injury, but he’s only missed about 3 games due to injury/Covid.

DDG must be asking for silly wages as he’s too good not to have any club interested in him. It would be funny if Pep managed to get DDG playing out from the back though.

I just dont see that we would, there is no benefit to us helping bayern, he came here knowing hed be number 2, he has played in significant games including the fa cup final and there is just no benefit to us selling a top keeper to bayern to help them when it doesnt suit us , the only upside to us would be selling for significant money.

Be interesting what our valuation is for Ortega! With the new time wasting rules you just know if sold Ortega Ederson will get two yellow cards for time wasting!

I agree with mancboy and LongsightM13 on this. We would have to do better than Muric (although is a decent keeper)

I get what you are saying, but if Ortega demands the move, there’s not much we can do anyway. He may decide to stay, but he’s won pretty much everything he can here, especially if we win tomorrow night.

Can’t leave until he gets the community shield
Apparently that’s the new champions league

Theres plenty we can do, he is under contract and they will have to meet the fee
Again, no one knows what fee we would ask for.

We don’t know what agreements we make with second choice keepers to get them in.

If every transfer followed your path, no club would sell a player against their wishes. That’s obviously not true.

We will no doubt give Bayern an acceptable fee. If they meet it, Ortega goes, if they don’t, he’ll stay. (Barring going on strike etc.)

im not saying we wont give a fee but that fee will have to be acceptable to us, as we have said there is no benefit to us to selling ortega and helping a european rival apart for a significant fee and the price should and will reflect.

20m is of zero benefit to us as it will cost us more than that to replace him as other clubs know that we are in need, just like bayern are now

Its dead simple there is absolutely zero upside to this deal for us and the player is under contract, bayern or not it doesnt matter, the season has started, its going to cost us a fortune to find an adequate replacement and there is nothing in it for us to sell.

The arrogance that bayern and barca have is astounding, they genuinely believe that if they want a player that all other teams should just say here you go have them.
Wouldn’t blame Ortega at all for going he is not a back up keeper good luck to him

Kind of interesting thinking about the reaction to this window early on when we lost Gundogan and Mahrez, to us potentially bringing in: Kovacic, Gvardiol, Paqueta and Doku. Looking like Phillips is being phased out.

That's a really good 4 players to get in, all really good on the ball. With Kevin out for a while, it should be strong enough to challenge on all fronts.

I suspect, with current personnel available, the side is perfectly set up for every tactical variation Pep wants, he now has:

1) A complete abundance in control midfielders: Rodri, Kovacic, Bernie, Paqueta

2) 6 defenders that can play in a back 4, and in particular, Gvardiol AND Stones means Pep can bring back Double Inverted Fullbacks if he wishes too.

I think the ultimate 11 of these players involves playing Rodri as a CB who can push into midfield (doing the Stones role from last season). This forces the back 5 to consist of the most "competent" ball controllers, so when under a heavy press they are least likely to make mistakes, but also the best passers of the ball as well.

Gvardiol
Dias
Stones

Rodri
Kovacic

Foden
Alvarez
Haaland
Bernie
Doku

Defensive Depth: Walker, Akanji, Ake, Paqueta, Lewis (he might play higher in the future) - 5 players

Attacking Depth: Grealish, Palmer, McAtee, Bobb, (KdB when fit benches a starter) - 5 players

No room for Gomez and Perrone.
You're sticking Grealish on the bench with youngsters but including Doku (new signing, completely unproven in our squad) and Alvarez (doesn't currently work with Haaland)? And when Grealish was key to our winning the treble! (I'll leave the disrespect to Ake to one side for now.) Just fuck off with that.

Honestly, some people's Grealish hate just makes them look like idiots.
