The PGMOL Apologies Thread

In a couple of years time, we will have a VAR checking team that checks if the first VAR was correct..

Still fuck it up though.

It's not the first time Michael Salisbury has been "dropped" for clear errors: https://theathletic.com/4400745/2023/04/11/brighton-var-referee-michael-salisbury/

The guy is either totally incompetent or there's something else going on. In either case, he should be sacked.
If you ask me he is both, as are pigmol and VAR.
Am I right in thinking since Howard the red has become the leader/chairman/head of VAR there has been decisions or non decisions that have been absolute howlers?

No coincidence that he was in taggarts back pocket when he was ref and the rags got outrageous on field protection and match winning favouritism from certain officials.

De Ja Vu .

The PL and PGMOL should never be associated with “truth”. ;-)

Also, there have been plenty of “improvements” that were spun as positives for fans, but in reality only served to make VAR an even more opaque system.

The PL and PGMOL should never be associated, full stop.

A lack of independence is a major contributor to the mess we have at the moment, imho. In fact, the PL seems to have a problem with the word "independent" in general.

What puzzles me is what type of person wants to be a ref ?
I known the game needs them !
You make a mistake which that's face it, it should be getting hard to make with VAR.
VAR I thought was to cover their backs to help the refs but it isnt.
Rashford against us the ref over ruled a world cup final linesman and VAR. It has to go down as one of the most corrupt decision ever.
Yet that ref couldnt careless never got dropped, never had to explain his decision, his decision could have cost City the league.

I get the feeling these refs are little people and this power goes to their heads. They are jealous that they werent good enough to play football at any level.

If you remember years ago there was an article about giving a decision against the Rags meant you ended out in the cold, no big games, career impacting. No harsh words, no disciplinary, but it’s the usual way that a corrupt western society creates obedience. You are quick to learn to fall in line & your career will blossom. The offside decision did no harm to Attwells career & he carried on with the penalty at Wembley.

Here is a thought. Why don't the five big leagues create a Euro PGMOL to oversee their matches. Referees couldn't take charge of matches in their home countries.

:)

Making PiGMOL independent of the PL / FA would be a massive change in the right decision imo

Quite right. The only communication PGMOL should have with the PL, FA or any club is on defining terms of service and remuneration. Once that is done, and approved by the IR, no more communication at all other than half an hour with managers and teams before kick-off. Enough socialising and smiley get-togethers already. Get professional.

Oh yes, and performance should be monitored by a body truly independent of the PL/FA/PGMOL preferably with overseas involvement, with published results and IR oversight.

Great idea with one catch......no one would want our officials!

Instead of, or maybe as well as, apologising maybe PIGMOL should have the game replayed?
That would definitely make them think twice about their corruption (alleged) and in this particular case, Trafford v Wolves, neither team has any other extra matches to play have they? ;-)

I think Referees bottle out of some decisions knowing they have VAR behind them who they can pass the buck to.
Everyone is rightly saying VAR got it wrong but the ref should have given it anyway.
So now its not Hoopers mistake it is VARs.

Not sure what the point is in removing the officials from next week's games, they weren't going to ref united twice in a row so they were never going to be making a similar "mistake"
If the 'mistake' wasn't made on Monday, the officials wouldn't ref at the swamp for a very long time.....

We can all see what's happening can't we... ref has a difficult decision, defers it to VAR. VAR team defer it back to the onfield ref whenever they can.

It's slopey shoulders, a common thing in the work place especially amongst decision makers.

Yet PGMOL can't see it. Amateurs, I really think so. They're more interested in optics than good reffing.

Apologies are worth nothing. The corruption in the game us there for all to see. Brighton three times were apologised to after biased refereeing disadvantaged them in three matches. It didn't get them the points back and that and other bent decisions (eg Rashford in the Swamp Derby) helped Uniturd qualify for the top 4.

Officiating is rotten and English football is as bad as anywhere. Too many people don't want to admit it.

Would it ever be independent ? Doesnt stop brown envelopes etc or favouring certain teams

Hard to eradicate that corruption but PiGMOL having the PL as their paymaster cannot under any circumstances build confidence in their partiality.

Especially as the rags and dippers hold such a strong influence on the PL .
