Yes it is quite common that when a club buys a player for 40m they accept a clause that he can be sold for only 44m the year after. And that agents insert secret clauses, and that clubs secretly remove them without anyone noticing. C'mon now.

Which is exactly what they have done. Feel free to ask any Wolves journo also.

Had a £44m buyout active in Jan 2024.

They thought Liverpool would try to buy this summer, so negotiated for it to be removed so they could get more money.
