Kalvin Phillips

The announcer shouldn’t have made it such a big thing. I felt bad for KP.

He did okay today too.

The announcer is a wrongun. He had about 4 embarrassing moments today to add to the hundreds of hundreds he has already collected.

KP did do well today when he came on, but still not trusted to give a knackered Rodri a rest.

Fair play.

He had a very good cameo,he looked more switched on and fitter.....will hopefully do wonders for his confidence and he can be trusted to even start games at some point.

I was pleased with the reception he received when he came on for his cameo appearance. I wonder how he felt when Rodri was replaced and he was still benched.
When Bernardo came on for Rodri I bet Phillips thought ‘fucking hell, what do I have to do?’… no way did I think he’d come on later on after Rodri had already been replaced.

Would Pep have brought him on? I reckon that was a Lillo sub.

But just there in that snippet of a chance he was given today, he looked good.

For England in the Euros, when him and Rice were on the pitch together, I felt like Phillips was the better player. For Leeds he was their best player.

The fans know he has backed himself to succeed with us, so there is no point being anything but unwavering in our support of him. It’s not a coincidence that he and Gomez made their first appearances yesterday. The club knows they are here, probably for the season, and will now use them accordingly. Good luck to them both.

I have noticed that Kalvin gravitated close to an apponent player when we have possession. He doesn't try to find space.
Now, I'm not saying I know how he is instructed to play, but glueing himself to an apponent when we have the ball seems counterproductive.
Shirley he needs to be finding space to make himself available to receive a pass?
Stop calling me Shirley!

While Kalvin didn't put a foot wrong yesterday, that was my take as well, particularly when we played the ball out from defence. Strange one perhaps given our style of play is predicated, in part, on a player always making himself available for the pass. Otherwise, a decent cameo and confidence boost to a player who may yet prove the doubters wrong. Let's hope he can continue on an upward trajectory. Oh and those who have suggested that the cheers accompanying his introduction were ironic, you clearly weren't there.

I have been thinking this Kalvin thing over. I'm wondering if he is attempting to shield the passing areas between himself and the defensive 3rd when we are in possession.
Attempting to limit the effectiveness of the opponents press close in to the passing lanes of the defensive groups. A bit of pre-emptive obstructive gamesmanship, as it were.
If that's not it then I'm out of ideas.
