Would you want VAR scrapped?

Correct, the Jones sending off wasn't harsh - he rolled over the ball and nearly bent the player's ankle backwards. The other sending off was also deserved if only for the stupidity of trying to make a tackle that had virtually no chance of coming off and just after being booked.
I had no issue with both red cards, thought they were justified

Don't forget when Aguero's goal wasn't given v Arsenal in FA Cup semi final Sane's cross was judged to be out of play when it was in. Are we going to get that fixture replayed also? Could name a dozen other incidents we've been robbed why do L'pool fans think this is unique to them? Cry me a river....
Rumours are that the global temperature went up half a degree at the weekend due to the number of burning candles across Murkyside.

It appears that VAR in this case thought the goal had been given on the field so “check complete” was supposed to mean award goal.
Easily remedied by use of protocols where all VAR verdicts state positive outcomes. Thus: No goal, offside…..Award goal, no offside…..No goal, foul. Etc etc.

Whichever way the excuse is dressed up - VAR officiating was still at fault.

Mate. VAR is fucked and if no one kicks off about it, it will remain so. Hopefully, something may now come about because one of the darling clubs has kicked off. Hopefully, some traction may occur if others do similar

The only thing that will come out of this, imo, is no more red cards for Liverpool this season unless they actually kilk someone and plenty for us. Don't kid yourself.

VAR made the correct decision i.e it was a goal, but they said “check complete” and this was interpreted on the ffield as “offside”. A perfect illustration of why the military, the police, the NHS all use protocol based messages. Mind you, they have to use them unlike Cressida Dick in the case of the Brazilian electrician. The Met have a protocol sentence for “Stop that person, you can shoot him, if necessary”. Dick failed to use it and an innocent guy was shot 11 times as a result. Dick was promoted.

been saying it since var first came in that the only way that people will trust it is if the refs conversations are available to everyone but the problem then is how do you get away with giving dodgy decisions at the swamp and klanfield, the dippers should be careful what they wish for

It's so obvious it's ridiculous it isn't already done. But again, it raises the question what these VAR operators (how many are there?) are watching. Not the game, obviously.

Clear communication and a clear protocol for reviewing different decisions is required. Basic stuff.

I think they are watching all the games in their bunker. One VAR per game. Boredom probably sets in.

The fact Darren England was in the UAE days earlier getting paid to ref a match in the UAE is highly inappropriate. The optics are shocking. Why is the UAE flying in English refs who officiate in the PL, rather than having locals officiate?

As City fans, does this arrangement make you uncomfortable? It was clearly an error. But imagine if that decision was in your favour against Liverpool, days after the refs in question just got back from an all expenses paid trip to the UAE to earn 5k each to ref a domestic UAE match.

Do not plead ignorance. You know deep down this is dodgy and reaks. All it would take is a decision in your favour, and for it to have been the case the referee in question was in the UAE days earlier under the same deal Darren England was on - and thats it, scandal, accusations, and genuine appearance of conflict that would put another microscope on the Man City name.

Calls for Howard Webb to ban PL refs from getting paid outside their capacity as PL refs, and it has to happen.
Were you uncomfortable when Emirates sponsored Arsenal got a disproportionate number of wrong decisions go their way when playing in the Emirates F.A Cup at the Emirates stadium allowing them to win one or two Emirates F.A Cup trophies?
Maybe Darren England's trip to the United Arab EMIRATES was to discuss ways of further pushing Emirates sponsored Arsenal up the table or to make their recent overblown expenditure look reasonable by helping Emirates sponsored Arsenal to win the Emirates F.A. Cup.
Maybe Stuart Atwell will be refereeing an all star match in Rwanda next week. I'm sure the thoughtful and rational AFTV and Dipper thought bank will keep us all up to date.
Fucking loon.

I said this earlier in the thread too. A protocol for incidents (offside, etc) which walks the decision makers through the LOTG would make a massive difference. It's barely credible it doesn't appear to exist.

VAR will never be 100% perfect.

They will get things wrong.

If you think of all the referees they have in the NFL and all the different camera angles they have and that they take ages to make decisions... they still get things wrong or controversial.

Thats the crux of this and that is what has to change. If PGMOL are unwilling or unable to implement a standard, transparent process to each and every ground then they should be disbanded and get someone that can to do it. Maybe Rugby Union would run the process and referees.
In this most recent case, the difference between a well run process and a shambles is 100% apparent. Seemingly the VAR team missed the fact that a goal hadn't been awarded by the referee and 'check over' sealed the deal. In RU, if you listen to the dialogue between the referee and the video referee the phrases used are pre agreed, many of them taken straight from the lotg and always ended with a final 'so is there any reason for me not to award this try'. No nicknames, no panicked talking over each other, no lack of clarity or risk of confusion, just calm deliberation using the technology to reach a correct decision - all 100% transparent and audible. VAR as its is implemented in PL football is not fit for purpose. Those that have implemented it should be held accountable and binned and PGMOL disbanded.

I'm glad Liverpool are taking this stance despite the massive hypocrisy. Time someone bloody well did.
I've always said that there is little wrong with VAR. It is the aloof arrogance and incompetence of English officials that operate it that causes the issues we are seeing in the EPL.

Also the majority EPL clubs (probably mid to lower table teams) blocked the introduction of the semi automated offside system used in the rest of Europe before this season started. Obviously teams like City, Liverpool, Arsenal given their attacking prowess will get more goals scrutinised and chalked off for offside and the semi automated system would tend to give more goals than deny them.

VAR has worked well in all major international finals and European club games this last few seasons. However, PIGMOL under the awful pompous leadership of Mike Riley decided to operate VAR "their own way". Howard Webb has done little or nothing to change this "we know better" attitude and the whole system is now a sham with 3 to 4 officials panicking and talking over each other during decisions.
