Pakistan are always mercurial. They could win the whole thing or finish 8th.

I did think about editing my post to include them.

Wonder if Archer might be fit later on and replace Woakes in the side.

India are the standout side and then it's pretty much even between the next 5 of Pakistan, Australia, NZ, SA and England. Some days one of those teams will look excellent, another they wont. England have plenty of options with bat and ball, we're coming into this undercooked and I think we'll improve as the tournament progresses. I don't think we're as bad with the ball as some say though, again it will depend on the pitches and how they play.

As you say, Pakistan will be unplayable one day and abysmal the next. Australia potentially don't have the power to score quickly enough, or the spin options to bowl teams out - Maxwell as the 2nd spinner weakens them imo.

NZ look good at the moment, but it wasn't long ago we were giving them a thrashing at home so we'll see.

And SA are fine as long as their top order fire. If you got a couple of wickets you wonder whether they'll score enough runs considering their tail.

Makes for a great tournament. It's certainly better than the rugby where you wait for 6 weeks before getting to the good stuff!

Good summation.

The group stage seems unnecessarily long.

Much was said about how deep England bat, and it's a good job because clearly the middle order doesn't fancy doing much of it!

We got enough when we were on 320/3 the rest come in at that point they are going to Throw the bat but at least they got out there in the conditions..

Probably win by 50+ runs now, I'm not sure why people are grumbling.

Because we're typical England fans and we want more! That's our third highest ODI score in World Cups, it's a great knock and whilst it may have ended up light considering where we were, it's enough to win us this game.

Now limit them to 250 from their 50 overs and we're back to a positive NRR - just!

We don’t just need to win the game, we need to win it by as big a margin as possible. We were beaten so badly by NZ that after the first round of matches we had the worst NRR in the tournament. Given it is likely to be 4 out if 6 of India, NZ, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan and England that qualify, then it’s likely that NRR will be a key factor in qualification. Yes it’s a good score but it needed to be very good, and a very good team would have got a better score from our position (in my opinion of course)

We can't worry about NRR now, it's game 2! Plenty of time to worry about that. NZ qualified ahead of Pakistan on NRR at the last WC but theirs was positive and Pakistan's wasn't. You are guessing there will be a scenario where it's very tight, but it might not turn out that way. If we win our games we'll have enough points not to worry about it.

Only 4 teams had a positive NRR at the last WC, and ours was 1.152 which was the best.

It's early days, we'll probably be near enough back to 0 after this game and then can go and work on it.
