Absolute clusterfuck of a political situation. It will get no better when Starmer and his party take over.Too many politicians have thier own interests and run the country for the benefit of the few.If a business was run as badly as what we have now customers would lose faith and it would probably go under.
What we need is some straight talking and action on the things that are wrong.
People may not like it but if someone says we are going to do something and sticks to it they get grudging respect.
Time to stop pussyfooting around and deal with the major issues and stick to the plan bollocks to all this not offending people as someone or group always will be.
Brexit needs sorting once and for all.
Nhs whatever it takes or costs.
Immigration tough stance on entry once people realise we are not a soft touch they will realise its not worth the hasale.
Give the police back the police force and end the softly softly approach.
Benefits system we need to look after the elderly, young and disabled everyone else should work for it.
Whatever your political views this country needs sorting and it will only come from the top of the political parties and needs strong leadership and implementation.
Nicely summed up the negative side of a democracy there. In a democracy those in power always have to think about who they are going to upset. Now in China they could and do just get on with it. Before anyone has a go at me I am not advocating a dictatorship just pointing out the limitations of democracy.

They could have been stopped years ago if the people on the boats weren't being used a political tool.

How exactly are they used as a political tool?

Does the EU also use them as a political tool given they too have just as big an issue with illegal migrant boats entering into EU countries?

Are you saying that the far right of the Tory party were not using the situation to stir up their base ?

The boats need to be stopped unless you are ok with that as a method of entry and accept the thousands that will die due to its dangers as par for the course?

Immigration has to be managed. Safe entry for those eligible a must.

Stopping the boats is a must for any government.

People entering the UK via small boats are a relatively small number, circa 20k this year. It may seem a lot but in the scheme of things it’s not.

Agree that there should legal safe routes. Save for some special schemes there currently aren’t any, hence the small boats. Asylum claims also need to be processed in a timely manner.

None of the above will happen under this awful government. They have decided to use asylum seekers as a political weapon to trigger the stupid and the hard of thinking.

It's embarrassing, a stupid catchphrase for the gullible. This Government love a basic shitty catchphrase to try and whip up the lemmings.

Fantastic post, now define:

A sorted Brexit

Your taxes are about to rise by 10% to sort the NHS because apparently it doesn't matter what it costs-what defines sorted

Immigration-a tough stance in place already. Unfortunately this is a worldwide issue and not just UK centric.

I agree on benefits to a degree

Who's you favourite strong leader?

Catchphrase or not, governments around Europe have the same problem to solve, how to stop the boats.

I’ve never understood our asylum process. Just let people apply for asylum at our embassies / consulates, if approved pop them on a plane/boat.

As you say it’s a political weapon and doesn’t suit agendas to make it straightforward. Bonkers.

Governments around Europe have the same problem but opted for trying to work together. We've opted out of trying to work together. Opting back in would be a step in the right direction.Dogma of the right wing tories prevents that first step.

ALL MPs should only be allowed one job , an MP, no appointments on to ANY board, no advisory roles, your an MP and MP only, if you don't like it, resign.
we would be ruled by the aristocracy and billionaires who could afford it, what’s needed is stricter regulations on lobbying in fact an outright ban is needed make it a crime to try and influence an elected person, are you allowed to lobby a judge? MPs need to represent their constituents not big business and other countries, the law should me made to the benefit of the people

The asylum process is to pretend to care, but actually make it as difficult as possible to claim asylum and hope they go somewhere else. In the UK, our immigration system seems to be mainly set up to milk foreigners while making it as difficult as possible to actually go to the UK. My wife just got rejected for a visa to visit for Christmas. In the rejection letter, they said the reason was that I was in the UK and I was paying for her trip, while she has no savings (she does, but they're in my account), meaning it looks like she's actually coming to live. Only problem is I don't live in the UK, as was made explicitly clear, with evidence on the application form and with all of the supporting evidence. But yeah, whatever, 115 quid down the drain with no right to appeal and no recourse whatsoever against the person who clearly didn't even read the application properly. And that's just a tourist visa. If that was a settlement visa, that could be a grand down the drain all because someone just didn't bother to do their job.

We have to be quicker with the applications and that can be done abroad, lots of people get asylum and economic migration confused.

86K a year plus living expenses and staffing costs, a nice little earner, there would be no shortage of normal decent people who would want to be part of it.

Wish i had the magic wand.
Brexit should be reversed as even those who voted for it must see we are worse off.Not too sure that the EU would have us back.

The Nhs needs proper funding if taxes have to go up so be it.Get rid of the middle managers and put the money where it needs to go.

Immigration i am afraid needs to be tougher.

Work dodgers need to work for thier money put something back.

Strong leader have we got one? Maybe a Mourdant,or Hunt.
Reeves from the Labour party.
Watch the abuse i get for that suggestion.

Would there? I doubt anyone on less than 40-50k would consider leaving their career for a job they might be thrown out of in 5 years that's if they even get elected after maybe a few years of trying to get selected and elected.
I'm not against restricting other jobs but MPs would probably need to earn more than £86 k
