Have you canvassed Rawk’s opinion on the foul at the weekend? I’m sensing they’d probably think it was a foul.

It’s subjectivity. When a fan agrees with a call, they will back it. When they don’t, they want fundamental change.

Having Clinton Morrison, Paul Merson or Neil Warnock determine a VAR decision would be worse than having a referee make a call. Referees know the laws, players and managers don’t.

No system will remove subjective decisions from being controversial.

Of course it is subjective, most things are, and none of those three would be on my panel!
 
I have nothing against VAR and would like to see semi automatic offsides.

What I do have is a grievance that VAR being used to manipulate an outcome which suits 'The brand' over the sport.

Until we're given access to the conversations live and in real-time I will suspect this is the case.

So which players would you have, given the highest paid don’t need to work again after retirement?

All I think that needs to change is the concept of trying to keep the ref’s decision on field if they possibly can.

Get them to look at big decisions that have any contentiousness about them.
 
Officials confirm to Gary O’Neil…

- Ream should have been sent off.
- First fulham pen shouldn’t have been given.
- Vinicius should have been sent off
GoN does a very calm interview despite that

Such an independent panel already exists with five members only one of whom apparently has a refereeing background. They review KMI’s in relation to VAR and tend to judge by the “spirit” of the law rather than the strict letter of the law. This is given lip service in IFAB’s preamble to the laws but the laws themselves then largely ignore it. I would see an extension of this if you want to cut out diving.

The alternative is to regard diving and conning the referee as a skill and part of the game.

The sort of panel members I have in mind would have had fairly long careers probably mostly at Championship level and with a good disciplinary record.

VAR tends to try and keep the referees decision as far as is credible so far as I can see.

That’s not quite what he said. He said that the ref confirmed the first Fulham penalty shouldn’t have been given and he wishes he’d been sent to the monitor to review it. O’Neil thought there should have been 2 sendings off, and I’m not saying he’s wrong, but there was no suggestion that the referee agreed with him on those.
All that being said, it does look like he’s kicked a black cat, the number of decisions you’re not getting.
Obviously, the one benefit of the doubt you have had was against us……….
Let’s hope a few go your way in December and January, specifically the 2nd of December and the 30th January ;-)
 
This league is so corrupt we now need a independent governing body to clean this league, no more brown envelopes or favouritism to any team we all judged as equals.
 
Since when did, clear and obvious, not become clear and obvious? VAR was supposedly brought in to get rid of the real howlers, the player 2 yards offside who scored, the player who two footed another player over the ball, the blatant handball penalty not given.

It wasn't to micro-manage every single goal, and every tiny little bit of contact in the box. It's a joke, to the detriment of the game. 50/50 decisions are now being judged upon, when it's a completely subjective decision who even neutral pundits can't decide upon afterwards, with the benefit of every replay angle.

Take a supporter from 5 years ago, and drop them into one of today's games, and they'll be like, wtf has happened to the game? It's crazy!

I think there has to be some latitude on VAR as Souness suggested, maybe going back to the “daylight” rule. If it’s micro analysed on daylight that’s fine as the forward has already had the benefit of the doubt as used to happen pre VAR.

Also, there was a bad challenge this weekend (can’t remember who) but it was worse than a yellow but not worthy of a red, howabout if this happens the player has to go off with a yellow to his name but a sub can replace him?
