The Title Race - 2023/24

How many points will be needed to win the league?

  • Total voters
    446
  • Poll closed .
That result makes yesterdays disaster a bit more palatable, especially with Arsenal and Liverpool yet to play each other.

There isn't a top team so far this season. Winner is looking at a points total in the low 80's in my opinion.

Hell of a long way to go. 5 points in it in december is really nothing, that doesn't worry me.

We need to improve for sure though and I do believe we will.

I'll be worried if the gap gets bigger and the performances haven't improved by end of jan/early Feb.

At the risk of being smug, as said several times, Liverpool are shit and the 14 goals in the last 15 minutes of games this season completely distorts the picture.

They won’t be within 10 points of City.
Mate we need to string a few wins together first before you make a statement like that.

So they'll be either be at least 11 points ahead or 11 points behind.

Which is it?

Clichéd billocks the title race starts from the first weekend of the season.
Not relly as there is no pressure pre new year unless you badly fall behind, if we are still 4-6 points from top of the expected 2 rivals for it then the march fixtures with be a big factor, as I say before then anybodies, for us if we are still in with a shout then March is important

Well no, because that's not a fair comparison is it.

Some people couldn't see the team that we had last year, hence the comments that were made on last year's thread. Don't rewrite history and use the benefit of hindsight to now start comparing last seasons team with this one.

Time will tell whether this current team are capable of stepping up before the end of May, and therefore repeating the repair of where we were at this point last season.
We don’t have the same number of points through 17 games as last year, so we aren’t at the same level from a purely quantitative perspective even if you want to cast the eye test aside.

The argument I constantly see made on here is essentially we went on a run the last couple years so we will go on a run this year as well.

That is like saying because a stock outperformed the market the last two years it will again this year. Our past body of work doesn’t guarantee us anything this year.

Of course we have a chance but we need a change very soon. The main concern is not getting too far back with too many teams in front. We are good at chasing down a team rather than 4 or 5 of them.
Just not playing well enough.

It's best to match the opposition up from last season's results or a like-for-like.

Two ways to look at this, I think.

1. No one is leaving us for dead. Five points from first when first and second haven't even played each other is nothing.

2. We haven't taken advantage of other slip ups yet, and we look way, way off it.

Let's hope the winter sun and getting the whole team back together for some team talks and clear the air meetings or whatever sorts us out.
