Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

Why does the blue line obscur/go over the defenders ankle but goes under Bobbs foot. Are they supposed to do that? Seems a bit odd and inconsistent?
I really don’t get any of this marginal offside shit, drawing of lines etc. if it’s not clearly offside to the naked eye, or if var have to be involved to a freeze frame ( no lines) then it’s ONSIDE.

Bearing in mind the technology / officials are not competent enough to distinguish the exact moment the ball is played, they are happy with “clear and obvious “ with regards to errors, why one earth not do exactly the same with offsides

Repeat : if it’s not clearly and obviously offside, then it’s onside !

Bobb’s goal was good, Bobb’s your uncle !

I have to agree, it way to close and does depend on where the picture is stopped on Fodens pass.

It doesn’t show he wasn’t either though and the call on field was offside.

As you suggest, determining the exact point of contact is impossible, so your version is just as valid as the one in the picture.
It isn’t impossible and I didn’t say it was. I said they chose the wrong frame.

Perfectly put sir !

People might have different ideas about what is the fastest system. But as long as you have VAR, you’re going to have controversy.

No matter what the guideline is, even if it’s just use the naked eye. You’re always going to get the system used plus or minus a centimetre.

I disagree.

Using lines make the offside decisions more accurate and takes away the subjectivity of one person thinking it's clearly offside and someone not being sure.

However, they do need to be much quicker making a decision.

Took a picture from the tv of the frame showing offside with the lines drawn by VAR
The blue line goes through the defender’s ankle joint and the red line BEYOND Bob’s toes.
If the lines were drawn correctly they would at least overlap!!! It’s embarrassingly obvious.
Have tried to upload the image but the server says file too big.
The defender is wearing white boots. That's the end of his boot, not his ankle.

Surely the lines could be shown a lot thinner than they are.
Thought the ball would have bobbled over the line anyway without a touch from Bobb

Same person makes no contribution to the thread, bar slighting those that disagree with her, whilst arguing something no one is discussing.

The clubs didn’t want the semi automated system, so it hasn’t been implemented. We shall see if it is used next season. Until then, lines will be drawn and every decision that goes against us will be called bent.
I thought I'd seen recently that they were going to bring in the SAOT next season, I think after the fuss of the Liverpool/Spurs debacle.
I'm not sure what the game needs is mm offsides but if we have to have the thing at least the automated system will make it a lot quicker and accurate.

Yeah, agreed. The more automated it is the better. I’ve not read anything concrete on it being used next season, but they way VAR has been mismanaged by Webb, all possible automation needs to be used to negate his influence.

Anybody in this thread that doesn’t conform to VAR being shit and bent is immediately lumped in the VAR lover category. I’m far from that, but recognise it isn’t going anywhere, so it needs to improve.

If the lines are drawn on a flat still photo how can a line go under one boot but over another. Whether the line should be on the toes of the boots is irrelevant.

I’m not sure what you are meaning. There is a dotted line at the end of the Spurs player’s white boot. That blue line goes through Bobb’s boot near his heel. The red line is drawn at the end of Bobb’s boot.

There’s slight daylight between the lines, so it is deemed offside.

People are questioning if it’s the right frame to use and none of us can definitively say whether it’s right or wrong.

I’m not sure what you are suggesting, sorry.

That pic looks like they’ve photoshopped sideshow bobs shoes onto Bobbs. Haha!
