Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

The Laws of the Game aren't totally clear on this point, but I think they suggest a referee should not make any decision if advantage is being considered. He should wait a few seconds, then either i) give a foul, or ii) play advantage. When Hooper indicated with his arm that he was playing advantage, then that decision is final, and he can't, or shouldn't change it.

You will not see another example of a referee signalling advantage, then going back to award a free kick if the advantage didn't work out.

You will, you’ll see plenty, just none as badly decided as today. They can signal advantage and still bring it back if play doesn’t develop as advantageously as they thought it would.

City v Chelsea, Aguero through on goal and Side Show Bob takes him out. The Ref goes to blow..... and then he didn't. We still mention it on here years later as it was so bent, why Blues are defending Hooper today I have no idea although I suspect they are wumming. Someone told him to blow. They need a different winner this year. Bent.

The referee was OK apart from that utter clanger in injury time.

Has he explained it yet?
He wasn't okay.

He got all our cards spot on, but he let at least 3 of their players go unpunished, including one for EXACTLY the same offence Rodri was punished for.

There were other disparities also, including allowing their free kicks to be taken quickly from the wrong position, clearly giving Spurs an advantage.

As bad as that decision was, he wasn’t to blame for us shipping 3 goals at home was he?

Yep.

That was pre VAR, but it was BLATANT.

Ref fucks up, oh well he must be corrupt. Grow up.

Season before last rodri got away with a very very blatant hand ball v everton. Remember?
Cost liverpool the title that decision. Was that corrupt too?
Seriously ? You've fallen for the dippers lies !!

Serious question. What form did outside pressure take? How do u actually think its corrupt?
I think there is a general bias against us because of our success. I don't think it involves brown envelopes or anything like that. We've heard rumours of voice recordings of people (VAR, league officials) saying things like we don't want City winning four in a row, or just give the goal (Rashford offside). Whilst all this is rather fanciful, it is quite possible.

Some of our referees are very weak, and I think they are utilised based on their usefulness to achieve certain outcomes. Attwell is reliable for certain decisions that might favour certain teams. Darren England was the go to VAR for favouring Liverpool until he failed to give them the Diaz goal recently. But that was a genuine error, because there is no way England would have deliberately cheated Liverpool. I think referees know there will be no detrimental impact on their careers if they screw us over. Some referees are described as homers. Some favour the minnows, in cup games. Some have even admitted to not wanting to upset certain managers as it might affect their careers.

It's all wrong. Referees are paid a lot of money to be impartial. The status, ranking, success rate of competing teams shouldn't ever be a factor in how a game is refereed.
