I didn't think he was great 1st half. Gave the ball away far too much but I do think it was a bit of a consequence of the right hand side being so bad. But he got the goal still and 2nd half he settled down as we regained control back.

I agree but he is not more involved in GA (goals against) than say Ake. The latter has been involved in GA vs Wolves, Arsenal, Spurs, United, Liverpool...Only Akanji from those who have bee regular starters has been consistent this season.

Overall, Gvardiol has had an excellent 1st season so far.
 
Given that he is only 22 (2 years younger than Phil) I think he has done incredibly well and is only going to get better. Has the ingredients to end up like a hybrid ov Kompany & Stones.
 
He looks so sharp compared to 6 months ago. He's so confident on the ball and finds the men with his pass whereas a few months ago he struggled a bit.
Chipped in with some great goals along the way too.
Really chuffed for the kid, he's only going to get better.

It’s the same with Stones - being a good footballing defender is completely different to being an elite player with the ball in the final third.

Hope to see them both paired as orthodox central defenders next season.
 
Great player and so many years ahead of him. It’s hard enough joining a new club, but he has also learned a new position, and learning to play under Pep (which is very complicated). A huge upgrade on Cancelo . Seems like a good lad too
 
The City Report podcast today had an interesting tidbit on the defenders that’s probably obvious to you long term fans. They mentioned getting pushback about praising Joško…because he was expensive, the expectation is he is excellent.Essentially he shouldn’t get praised for anything less than perfection because his cost. (Meanwhile, Rice was more $$ and everyone still praises him like crazy…They weren’t suggesting he was as good as Rice, just that $$ players on other teams get way more praise than City players). On the flip side, they mentioned less expensive players like Ake and Akanji also don’t get enough praise because they play for City…so the expectation is they are excellent. So basically, City players are never going get enough praise because everyone expects perfection as the baseline!
 
Many have underrated this lad , has made hardly any mistakes in his debut season and looks a very accomplished footballer he is young and Pep will only make him a better player , not sure of his best position because i havent seen him play at centre back , but he looks at home on the left another great signing by our recruitment department
