North Stand Construction Discussion

What do you mean by new cables?

The current cables are staying where they are. They are getting reconnected to an anchor in broadly the same location. The counter-tension is being transferred to the two outer back posts of the cage, and the middle back line. Instead of to ground as is the case now. The back cables are getting binned, as is the pier.

The truly 'new' cables, will come much much later, when the new roof starts going and the quadpods are in place. About 3-5m above the existing ones at the lowest level at the stand edge, and about 25m above at the highest point.
Ahh, I took it for granted that the existing cables attached to the cable net were being replaced by new ones that would be connected and gradually loaded up one by one and the corresponding original cable removed. Perhaps I've overthought it.

I made you another wee gif while sky were talking about klopp. Will upload after the game. And hopefully the celebrations

Crude for pace, but you get the point. Red is the current cables that will be transferred, green the new additional above. Off to the big game now.

Do you actually manage to get on site @jrb, or do you just find good spots to photograph through? I've always wondered this over the years.
I find gaps in the gates around the perimeter of the site, stick my Google Pixel 8 camera phone through the gaps, hold the camera phone in one had, whilst taking pictures and zooming in and out with my other hand. There's also 1 concrete chair against the hoardings that allows me to get my camera phone above the hoardings.

I've got a proper Canon DSLR camera and various Canon lenses, but it isn't useful when trying to take pictures through gates and over hoardings, so I either use my Sony point and shoot pocket camera or my mobile phone.(the Google Pixel 8 takes very decent pictures)

A Showsec Security Guard challenged me and told me to stop taking pictures of the site. You can imagine my reaction. I told him as long as I didn't trespass on the site I could take as many pictures as I'd like. That soon shut him up and he walked away

The waxed finish on the columns suggests they'll be left exposed inside, as opposed to the cores that will undoubtedly be lined.

Some interesting features picked out in that drone flight
1. You can see the level of the Skybar seating and why the existing cablenet support wires will be raised at the back (just below the red cicrles).
2. The tops of those two towers will host the Skybar F&B and TV Studios - and will eventually be the point where the roof support cables will be mounted (so they can take out the leaning poles - which they didn't have to on the South Stand)
3. If you follow the rakes down towards the old roof, you can see where the gap between the new 'wall seating' and (inside the roof) the old L2 seating which will be at the bottom of 'the wall'

Disco Steve is off on points 1 and 2. I guessed similar for 1, when the eyelet first appeared on its own. As soon as the other two popped up it was evident these are for the new roof beams, tailspin picked it up quickly. The skybar and f&b won't be at the top of those towers, they will be in the portion in-between them.

From SSL2.

The concrete base of the cable and roof support inside SSL1. NSL1 will be the same I presume?

These will be removed from the north stand, along with the Pier. I previously overlaid where they are in the new bit on here, they foul an escape route. There will be some foundation grubbing in amongst the new steel frame. Tight.

As I understand it, no.

They will build behind it, and above it, keeping it partially covered. For the best part at least, there will be some point to join the two.
I think the back 2 rows relocate as they received letters but everyone else is fine…we are Row N which as I understand it will be the back row next year as P and R won’t be used/will be sectioned off.
