Bruno Guimaraes

Arsenal still met that clause in 2013. Liverpool managed persuaded him to stay for one more season and he moved on to Barcelona. No reason Newcastle could still do the same this time around.
Of course Newcastle can try and persuade him to stay and they might be successful in doing so. They just can't turn down a release clause offer. The player can but I doubt a club would offer the release clause without having the go-ahead from the player's agent.

Anyway, we have no idea if we are interested in him or if he is interested in us. Time will tell.

With a release clause don’t the current club just have to notify the player that they have received that amount and then the player decides yes or no?
In one way yes but the selling club could still ignore it like Liverpool did.

Liverpool didn't ignore anything they persuaded the player to change his mind and thus it made the release clause a moot point. You are conflating personal terms and a release clause.

Suarez did want the Arsenal move (who wouldn't want to move away from Liverpool).

Still don't think it is that simple as a release clause but if we did manage it then fair fucks to people who are in charge.

Got a feeling he will decide to stay at Newcastle. He seems to like being the main man. Newcastle have others they can seek such as isak to raise funds

I think you need to understand the law of contract and tort a little better Ray, if the player has a release clause he chooses whether to exercise it, not the selling club.
Saying that there have been plenty of transfers have not taken place despite a release clause had been met.The rags had become a cropper with that with Athletic Bilbao.

He would probably stay for one more season and then move.

Didn’t we have Laporte change his mind last minute as well? (He obviously joined circa 18 months later but still)

Think they have some pretty good players tbh. I really rate botman, gordon, joelinton etc .

The real shame is them having to sell. It’s a sham tbh
All good players and Gordon would command a huge fee.

anyway, we’d better return to Bruno as it’s his thread.

Again they could have not extended his contract and fixed a better fee for themselves this summer.

Not really, no one is ever going to pay more than £100m for him clause or no clause.

Actually I think the clause is maybe 25% more than he was getting touted at before the contract put the release clause in (£80m). That’s one of the ways it benefits both player and club - slapping a price tag on can make people overpay for the ease of not having to negotiate.

I thought they were the richest club in the world ? Why do they need to sell.

Financial Fair Play...The media loves to tout the assets of the PIF fund, but the reality that doesn't matter much with FFP. The reality is they aren't one of the richest clubs in the world by actual revenues.
