I think this is a really good take. As the game wore on, I was thinking that he was knitting things together really well: his movement into space was smooth and unflashy, but regularly enabled an easy pass. A mature performance.

Quality player who is starting to realise even if you have great natural talent your work ethic has to be elite level to.

It would be superb to see this guy break through into the team, a local lad who loves the club.

I’ve been a big fan of Mcatee since I watched him live a few times in the Academy.

Followed him closely at SU last season and he was brilliant for them. He had fuck all around him but still looked a cracking player.

Thought he did well on Saturday, but felt he played in a less “cheeky” way that he’s capable of.

Having followed him for a few years I can see so many similarities to Dave. The wonderful left foot, the balance, the “jink”, the vision and intelligence and the calm, never rushed vibe.

Going to be absolutely colossal we just need to manage him appropriately.

I think he needs that switch to flip in his head where he says to himself “I’m as good as these” and then goes on to play his best game.

Of course he can. He’s a young player. Bobb, Lewis and all young players are like that. We can’t expect him to be a ready made player, it’s going to take time and as you say we need to trust his talent

Phil didn’t exactly jump straight into the first team on a regular basis, when he joined the senior squad.

And just like Phil, James, Nico, Oscar and Rico will have to be patient and build their experience gradually, though I think Oscar might get his chance straight away, judging on his performances since the start of pre-season.

I fully expect to see him in the starting XI at the Kremlin on Sunday.

Pep’s remarks sound really positive for James' future with the club.

I’ve already seen posts questioning his stature, and whether it will affect his progress, but it didn’t seem to harm a certain Spanish footballing god, and if James is half as good, he will still have a stellar career.

Agreed. For me, McAtee would be better to try and emulate Grealish’s game on the right: holding the width and playing in tandem with Doku on the left.

Really hope he gets some game time soon. If we get comfortably ahead against Ipswich it would be great to see him but realistically Gundo and/or Grealish will get on before him. Hard to see when he will play but he needs to be ready and then impress Pep.

I’m slightly concerned that he isn’t going to get enough game time to develop now.

If we are losing or even winning I think pep will probably bring on Gundogan or someone else.

I’ve said it before, but I honestly think we could save ourselves 50m if we invest in Mcatee in the long term. I hope he gets a chance.

Think he has the quality, but he needs to show more bite to get the breakthrough. If he shows intensity like Phil and Rico, he will get his chances. It's on him.

He's got the right to feel a bit hard done by the club. I get it. Shit happens. Gundo became available, and Pep wants him back, but the limited minutes that were available for the potential taking are all but gone now.
