Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

Has managed to get minutes in certain players’ legs, which was always going to be a challenge. The starts to seasons are becoming increasingly staccato, making it ridiculously difficult to have squads fully fit, but we have all 12 points and the only injury that has befallen us was with Ake on international duty. Hats off to Guardiola and the coaching/backroom staff.

I thought Gvardiol was a good sub, but I couldn't believe he kept Walker on. I also was sure he'd make some more changes to the midfield, as Brentford bypassed it almost at will. I think it's fair to say Frank got the better of him today, and a team with more quality than Brentford could have had this game over by halftime.
But we weren't playing a team with more quality than Brentford, so your point is moot

2 subs at half time twice In a row now. Granted at least 1 tonight may have been forced upon him but that's 2 games in a row where peps basically admitted he's set us up wrong. On the bright side, it's good that he see's it and is willing to change it quickly as opposed to sticking with it and waiting for it to cost us but I'd sooner he set us up properly for Arsenal please.

Its not as simple as he set up wrong. You can't 100% predict the opposition, how they will set up, perform etc.

Yeah for me Kdb should have sat this game out we need him fresh rested for Arsenal and we could have brought him on for the last 10/15mins!

Not starting Foden and Doku was a mistake. Subbing Savinho off and replacing him with Bernie didn't work either.

Like some of the players, Pep isn't in top form yet :) It's a matter of time. Hopefully we'll be better vs Arsenal but it's likely to be a cagey game.

Don‘t think he did much wrong in terms of selection. Against a side like Inter he was never likely to start more than 2 of De Bruyne, Foden, Savinho and Doku behind Haaland for fear of too many turnovers and quick transitions.
Foden is obviously well behind everyone else, and the science guys must have given the nod that De Bruyne would be ok to start again. Not sure it’s on Pep that he struggled so badly. Toss up really on Doku or Savinho on the right. Perhaps a better option might have been to start Gundogan over Grealish, Bernardo right, Doku left. But all a bit hindsight-y.
Changes at half time helped. Gundogan should have won it for us at the end.

Maybe he thought Internazionale would be a little more expansive, what with it being a one-off game, but they came and did what they have been doing for decades. Last night showed that this team will have problems if the opponent is so disciplined and can break in numbers. I cannot recall a time when we've been so often outnumbered on the counter and those long chases back are draining on the defenders and Rodri. In the first half, possession was regularly being turned over by de Bruyne and Savinho, so Foden and Gundogan made sense.

I saw the Pep effect in full force this morning.

I went to watch my granddaughter playing in hr U13s team. The last I knew, she was a striker, but her coach has moved her to centre-back.

And I could immediately see why. The team, as a whole, try to keep the ball on the ground and pass to each other, but she is on a different level altogether.

She reads the game brilliantly, and always seems to be in the right place at the right time to intercept the ball. Not only that, but she brings it out in the same manner that John Stones does. She even took the ball the whole length of the field and scored.

I know that it’s not right to compare a 12 year old girl with Boulders, but for the different levels of the game, it’s relevant. And while I concede that I was watching her through biased eyes, I wasn’t the only one, who thought so, as she was voted parents' Player of the Match to follow her coaches' Player of the Match last week.

But, as I said at the start of the post, it wasn’t just her; the whole team was passing to feet.

The result? They won 9-0.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I think Pep had a bad game..

What's the point of keeping Kyle Walker on for 30 more minutes after he almost gifted them 3 points? And then the entire strategy became Kyle Walker long shots.

BTW he totally fixed it with Stones sub! So FULL CREDIT where it's due!

BEST MANAGER ON THE PLANET!!!
Especially when they were down a man, he definitely had a poor day in the office.
