There was a ranting moron slating him on the way out of the ground tonight. Piss poor. He's a kid and has been thrown in at the deep end, this is not on him and it's pretty poor people going in on him

Miles out of his depth.

Put sentiment to one side for a second. If he wasn't a local lad brought theough the academy he'd be getting pelters more than he is now.

Fans saying he's been thrown in and shouldn't be playing week after week. He's nearly approaching 100 first team appearances for the club.

If we would have strengthened properly in yesrs gone by. He'd probably still be on loan somewhere.

He's not an elite level player, but he's all we've got at the minute.

Trap, two touches and pass more often than not backwards.
The game stops when he collects it giving time for them to reset

This is right. He gets the ball, looks forward as though he's about to unleash a defence-splitting pass, gives a little jump and then passes it sideways or backwards.

Of course, he's not to blame for the current malaise. To me he's a symptom of the wider problem. If he's one of our best players in training, which, presumably, he must be, we are in even bigger trouble than most of us accept.

He always looks busy but does very little

Certainly not a midfielder by any strecth of the imagination

This. We’ve had a world class RB in Walker and world class when he could be arsed in Cancelo. We’ve had world class midfielders for as long as I can remember. Rico is a massive drop off in both positions. He is serviceable in a dominant side and we have seen this in recent seasons. What he cannot be, is the replacement to any of these world class players. If he is the replacement, there is only one way this club is heading. It’s not just him though. We are seeing a decline in quality in a lot of positions.

And he isn't a RB either. Not sure where he actually fits. I like his effort and some of his passing is very good so a bit of a conundrum.

I thought he looked pretty good in midfield for most of the match, especially as he was getting precious little help from Gundo, if the truth be told.
He'll never be a defender, I'm afraid. He does his best, but it's not at all natural to him. And anyone who wasn't a midget would have gone for the header away on that cross and had a fifty-fifty chance of getting it. He knew he wasn't getting near it. The result followed. The Feyenoord player wasn't even properly challenged. I don't want to get on his case. I've constantly praised him. I believe he's a skilled player, and a much better reader of the game than, say, Walker. But he'll always be bullied physically, and in defence that's fatal.

I don't think he is any way responsible for tonight's capitulation.

If you're saying no one player should be singled out, I entirely agree with you. It was collectively disgraceful. I actually feel worse about this than when I was walking away from the ground after the Tottenham game. Sure, on paper, it's a draw. It feels completely like a defeat to me, and I bet not a few of the players. I hope so, anyway.
Seething.
