It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Yep, I certainly wouldn't extend his playing contract for the 2nd season, he's come back playing as though he's aged 10 years

In a limited role - eg off the bench to kill a game with passes alongside a mobile 6 or make late runs into the box as a 10/8 - he could probably still have a squad role. All while learning as Pep's assistant etc.

As bad as he's been, he's not been played in good situations this season, that mitigate his weaknesses.

Yeah but I'd be surprised if we buy 2/3 but I bet it be 2 pep should have excepted the striker from Celtic in the summer big mistake that! One thing with him is his energy and press is very good
Kyogo would have been the perfect signing for us—the ideal profile. His intelligence and ability to operate in small pockets are remarkable. I was genuinely excited when we were linked to him.

My other alternative would have been Griezmann—perfect age, high G/A, and versatile as a complete forward, capable of playing as a 7, 11, 10, 9, or false 9. Technically gifted, creative and an outstanding footballer. Our offensive struggles could have been avoided if we weren’t so arrogant in our approach.

This one is the easiest to do, theres tons of strikers with release clauses. Ive mentioned two on other thread. Sesko and Openda both 60 mill
Great signings—I like them both. Excellent in the air, and they would make us formidable. Unfortunately, I genuinely don’t have faith that this club will consider them, no matter how great they are.

Some creativity and goals would be nice. If Haaland has an off day or no service we offer zero goal threat.

Savinho, Grealish, Bernardo, Doku, Gundogan, Kovacic - lucky if we get 10 goals between them in the season. Bloody awful.

Sadly, this looks like being a good assessment of the situation.

Not sure where a " spark " of goal scoring is going to come from atm.

Newcastle won't sell mid season. Put your fishing rods away. And besides that we weren't interested first time around to activate his release clause.
Think their hand might be forced. £100m for Bruno G means they can spend £50m on two players in other positions.

Yep , we have looked a little impotent going forward apart from Haaland wth Foden not yet at full tilt. The wide men really need to be adding to our goals but we have had little threat from anyone out wide or the midfield with KDB out. I think Doku has shown signs he will contribute more but creatively apart from KDBs few appearances we have not looked as though we can open sides up and the lack of recovery pace in midfield when we lose the ball has been scary. Fingers crossed for top 4 and sensible January additions (think it will be max of 2 at best). A drop off in a season was always likely to happen and would have made more sense to build on top of a successful season than the one we are having

I think it’s easier to look at who is definitely staying and work from there to see who we would look to build around

Ortega

Ake
Stones
Dias
Akanji
Gvardiol

Rodri
Lewis
Bernado
Kovacic
Foden
Nunes

Bobb
Haaland
Doku
Savinho

So we definitely need two Defenders 1RB and 1 LB , ideally we’d need another CB as I could see one of Ake and stones leaving if we can get someone who would slot straight into the first XI

We need 2 midfielders , one who can play 6 or 8 and one who can play 8 or 10

We need a goal scoring winger and cover for Haaland , this could be the same player if it was someone like Leao or Rodrygo

That’s up to 7 new players , it would make sense to do two or three in Jan to ease the transition

We'll have to spend a fortune this summer. Pending the outcome of the charges, and on the proviso that outcome is positive, we need to go big. No more Mr Fucking Nice Guy; pandering to a cabal and a media that will never be satisfied with what we spend. If we want to remain a the very top, we need to spend a premium for the best young players.

Pep has just been asked if a replacement for Rodri is the priority in January and he replied: “When I have Kova and Gundo I don’t need a replacement in that position.”

I hope he’s just being coy so we don’t appear desperate in January.

It's amazing the rose tinted specs on here and the revisionism.

His last season he got criticised to hell on this site over his shooting, first touch, etc.
Ye his overall game wasn't quite up to standard but his shooting is something we desperately need

I think he's just being coy because he knows other clubs will hike prices up if we say were going to be active in the market. He said later on during another question that we need a deeper squad because of the schedule, so I think we'll bring in 1 or 2 in Jan.

I long for the day that the cost of our bench is a go to point of discussion for pundits again

Deeper squad is more than 1 or 2 in my mind, it’s barely the tip
