The hierarchy have decisions to make in the summer about several players. Including John. I'm guessing he's one of the big earners at the club, given his seniority in the dressing room. Which will probably be a factor in their considerations. Unfortunately, it seems that he can't be relied upon to play upwards of 25 PL games in a season anymore. He clearly has a serious issue with his foot.

It is probably the right time to say goodbye.

If we do say farewell to him I’ll feel like I did when Zabaleta left.

It’s the right time for everyone involved and it will be very emotional. He might not quite be ‘statue worthy’ but there’s something about his character, style of play and the way he represented the club with class that will leave an enormous void.

Johnny Big Balls, always a blue. One of the greats.

Bit of soul searching to do on both sides I reckon. If he's got his sights on the World Cup and a longer England career he may well want to move on to somewhere he's guaranteed game time when fit. Or he wants to see out his days here if he knows his body is catching up with him

I'd keep him on a much reduced contract - a senior (and homegrown) player still has alot to give to a young squad.

I think John will stay until the end of his contract summer 2026. I don’t think City will push him out. If he can stay fit prior to the summer window there is a slim chance that he could be used in a makeweight deal for another prem player, but his £200,000 a week deal makes it look difficult unless City pay towards the wages.

Given his age (31 in may; Eccles has the date in her diary, so she can send him a card!) and his poor injury record this past two or three years, I'd be amazed if any club outside of Saudi Arabia would offer him even half of what he's on here.

There won’t need to be anyone. John Boy’s back. He’s not going anywhere yet!!

JOHN BOY’S BACK. JOHN BOY’S BACK!!
John is one of our classiest players. I actually hope he can get over his injury and does stay fit as there is nothing better than watching John in our back line.

did not want to take the responsibility to clear the ball, he and ake are always injured. Both of them need to be sold

Good to see him back hopefully he can remain injury free especially with DIas only lasting 45 minutes (hopefully it is just Illness and not a reoccurance of his injury issue)

Agreed. Fit and at their best, they are more than good enough but neither can be relied on to stay fit. It’s a real shame but both need to be dumped. If those two stay, we will need 6 CBs in the squad. It’s not feasible.

‘hopefully’ doing a lot of lifting there! In reality he will break v quickly again, all v sad to see.

Let’s hope he’s ready to come back and not rushed and we can get a couple of months out of him before his next injury.

Brilliant player but he’ll definitely go in summer I think

Christ what is it with people here and how they talk about players who have won everything for us? “Dumped” ?

another one to mute

Because what we have won is in the past, time does not stand still.

Stones, KDB, Walker, Bernardo wonderful players, but players that are way past their best and it shows in our and their performances.

Do you want to win more titles?

If you do those players have to go and with our sincere thanks and gratitude.

Part of the problem, for me anyway, is that they are not going with sincere thanks and gratitude from some 'fans' they are going with insults and approbation.
When I hear of any of the players from the past few years who have helped to bring us such honours and so much joy and happiness being insulted and turned on it gets my goat. Sorry.

That is one of the reasons, again in my opinion, that Kyle Walker has gone. Yes there are others but the insults that he heard from the crowd the other week seem to have been the last straw.

Give these players thanks and gratitude and our unfailing admiration. Don't keep insulting them. (Not you @Keeper1)

Just my humble opinion.

Spot on - disgusting attitude particularly happens on the facebook groups but this does seem to be creeping into here to a lesser expent.

Stones / Walker / Ake / Bernardo - all amazing servants who have been core to the recent success. They are getting older and slowing. They will all leave within the next 2 years and should be leaving with our gratitude, not "dumped".

And a very valid point, there should be more gratitude.

I totally agree with that sentiment.

I read a post on Walker last night "good riddance" was used, that is insulting, unnecessary and very wrong.

We will have to say goodbye in the coming months to some wonderful players, their time is over but we all should be saying goodbye and thank you for giving us some wonderful and magnificent times that will live with us for our lifetime and these players and achievements will be long remembered when all of us are no longer here.

But I will add there are some ( not you) that are hanging onto those great moments, that is just as bad as not appreciating what these players have done, we are at a pivotal moment, too much sentiment could be very damaging.
