Unfortunately not good enough, i like the lad but not sure where else he would play in any other team in the prem. Hasn’t got the physicality and to play defence and doesnt really offer anything going forward.

As much as I don't like putting the boot in on academy players I don't know how he is getting minutes.

Positioning sense is absolutely non-existent and never goes for the 50-50s.

Even their 3rd goal - 2 mins to go. 50-50 ball on half way line with Madrid advance. Just Nigel de Jong em and take the yellow. Kill the game and any momentum.

Lewis is not RB, for sure. Even if you keep trying he is not. Why Pep insist to play him RB is beyond any logic.
He is a right back and has always been a right back.

he isn't a wing back or midfielder though and should not be venturing further than our 20 yard line and just concentrate on defending

I don’t know. I’m not seeing it. Every game he starts or comes on he’s in the thick of what inevitably goes wrong. It’s a pattern. I don’t think he’s been decent at all.. I’m sorry, would love him to prove me wrong but every single game he proves me right. It’s frustrating.
Against inferior opposition he looks good but against superior teams his mistakes are more pronounced. Young lad whose heart is in the right place. He will learn.

Twelve months ago or so I had so much high hopes with Rico being a natural successor to Walker. Unfortunately I feel that this season the lad has regressed and maybe he isn`t cut out for the PL.
A shame but a reality check needs to be made by Pep & Co and its hard for the lad having come through the ranks not to want him to succeed but I feel this is the end for the lad at our club.

He's a midfielder. Would like to see him take Bernardo's role in the squad next season. Would also like to see what would happen if we played Bernardo at full-back every week like we do Rico - or maybe I don't.

A young lad who deserves another season further up the pitch. He's technically gifted, nippy, doesn't shy away from a scrap, and has a bit of an eye for goal. Would like to see him as an #8 for a proper run.

Not every academy lad we have needs to be a world beater. Saved the treble season imo when Cancelo threw a wobbly, was an important player in our team last year. He can get back there, just needs patience.

Every team needs its John O'Shea and if Rico's happy being ours then I'm happy with him staying for a while. Do think he deserves a chance further up the pitch - he has the attributes - but unsure if Pep will give it him.

In interviews he declares himself as a midfielder.
Pep sees him as a ball playing defender that can invert to provide us with an overload in midfield.
Versatility can sometimes be a hindrance rather than an advantage.

I mean this guy you have described sounds fantastic. You’ve posted it in the Rico Lewis thread though.

If you want to see Rico in the Bernado role next season you must know something we don’t.. We lost the court case and are off to div 1

I’m far from Rico’s biggest critic, I can see his value in the squad and potential for the future.

But fuck me we should have signed a proper right back, it’s doing no favours to him or the team relying on him so much

I actually think he played ok when he came on, pressured situation against a rapid winger...... until. Until. Shithouse pass from Kovacic but Lewis had to be aggressive, he absolutely had to go hard towards the ball and man and make sure one or the other or both didn't go past.

Take a card, whatever, that situation demanded an aggressive front foot solution and he stood back on one leg and wafted a foot at it.

Useless as a right back in his own half as was even laid bare v Orient where he was awful 1st half when they targeted him and better 2nd half when we had better control

Putting Lewis on against Madrid is nutcase stuff
Had he put Khusanov or Nunes on we might all be saying the same thing, especially when given a hospital pass. We now have three to five players who are arguably not right backs and our only right back playing in Milan. Still, this isn’t the squad planning thread…

Every time he comes on my eyes roll, then my eyes roll again at the final whistle. Rinse and repeat. The story of our season I’m afraid.

He wouldn’t have got a card, the referee mustn’t have brought any because Bellingham pulled Sevinho back and the ref gave a foul but no card. Oh yeah, he’d have missed the next leg wouldn’t he
