I think winning the league last season fooled him and the club into thinking that we had more time on our side to overhaul the squad.

Even though we got over the line, the signs were there last season that a lot of these players were nearing the end.

There's people at the club paid a lot of money to foresee this happening and prepare, but we didn't. Now we have to be reactionary. Usually we're spot on in our preparation for the future but I think we misjudged it last summer.
It should have stated the year before to be honest

We were rubbish when Rodri was suspended last season, we were all screaming for another DM here and somehow people who know Football far better than us didn't do shit.

Club should have realised 18 months ago when we started loosing every time Rodri didn't play

They aren't, it's the aged players who are being exposed and the clown in net.
He's the one choosing to rely on these finished players. I agree 100% Ederson is a clown. Physically gifted but dumb as a stump...

he may not like it but Viana needs to take control of transfers and especially decisions on outgoings. Pep might be happy to bring Walker back after his loan, and extend with De Bruyne but is that really the best decisions for City?

based on what we read it was Pep refusing the start of a big rebuild last summer and Txiki said OK. but Txiki should have look out for long term interest of the club and squad building etc, rather than being sentimental. probably he was like ok Pep, if you want one more go with these players, do it, I am off in 12 months anyway what do I care...
Pep was maybe looking at it in he summer like its his last season and let the rebuild to his successor.
things changed and got so bad we instantly pumped 200m in January and Pep decided he cannot leave us in the shit like this and renewed, but clearly complacency did cost us a lot. Txiki should have override Pep's "last" wishes, and act as its best for the club not as best for Pep's potential farewell season...

dippers had fucking ageing side especially the midfield of Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Wijnaldum, Keita, all gone and replaced by high energy midfielders and younger ones who allow them to play the type of football they play.

our old guard of Ederson, Walker, Gundo, KDB doesnt allow us to play what we want, and quite a few many potentially past their best and gave their best to City already.

But lost what he called the big one, so you don’t think he fucked playing sterling instead of Fern or Rodri?
Yeah, I think he fucked up. I also think it's evidentially obvious that he is the best manager on the planet by a considerable distance.

I repeat, he's having a bad season for the first time in 16 years.

I agree. Marmoush should've replaced KDB much earlier. I assume Nico isn't fit.

Khusanov or Lewis is a toss up. Look what happened to Khusanov against Chelsea. You can't blame him going for Lewis.
Not for me, yes Khusanov made a mistake against Chelsea but then again who in this fucking team hasn't gifted the opposition a goal this season ? difference is Khusanov is strong and fast which are useful, Lewis has pretty much nothing at all as a defender.

I'm Pep's biggest fan, but the formation was strange and playing Rico vs Vin Jr was suicidal.

Also, KDB was poor from the start, couldn't find a teammate in the final third, yet stayed on the pitch for ages. He worked as hard as he could, but he wasn't good and should have made way much earlier.

Big changes are needed.

I'm saying that either is a risk and one isn't obviously better than the other. His decision was understandable.

But Lewis getting skinned by their pace is a certainty, not even just a risk.

The new lad at least has the physical attributes. If he's got the elite mentality required to play for champions, he'll overcome mistakes anyway.

Yes both are risks to a degree, no doubt, but one of them has next to no chance at dealing with these Madrid attackers. He's slow and has no physicality about him in that position.

The worrying thing for me is that we keep making the same mistakes and he doesn’t seem to be changing anything to rectify it

Behave, he’s fucked up before, lots of credit in the bank but let’s not say he hasn’t fucked up, CL final for example
He's fucked up the UCL 8 times in 9 years. He's a Prem legend and a UCL underachiever at City. That's just the facts...

We all assume that he chose to keep the small squad. The reality may be that he is protecting the chairman and sporting director.

Even Ange doesn't come out and slate Daniel Levy, who is clearly to blame for the lack of players at spurs.

Pep may very well be fronting an issue that wasn't his own making. For all we know, he may be - and likely is saying - I told you so.

Maybe they didn't want to buy because of the new Sporting director incoming or the charges for eg.

I can blame Pep for some of his selections but despite what he says, I'm reluctant to blame him for the player recruitment.

I don't think you're being reasonable. Stones in midfield today was a good move and we'd likely have won the game comfortable but for the Akanji injury and the usual Ederson idiocy.

If he's still picking the old guard this time next year I'll agree with you.

I don't think he's the best manager in the world by a considerable distance anymore mate, not since last season.

Somehow pep got a okay start line up but all of his sub choices worked badly.

I don't know why he did not look at Nunes or the new defenders but pick Rico at HT. It was suicidal.
