Should National Service be mandatory ?

That's been happening for years. They pay for your university education. After completing your degree you have to give 2 or 3 years of service in return.

Really, they pay all of it? Tuition fees and subsistence grants ? I didn't know that.

We already had "hostile forces" invading this country....i believe they were also meant to be defending it....didnt go too well

It looks like it only applies to those that become officers and then it's 1 or 2k a year?

I suspect they could and should up that considerably and widen the net so to speak along with other enticements.

Have you been watching the news? If you don’t think there will be a conflict in the next few years involving the U.K. then you’ve got your head in the sand.

But we’ve got Trident.
We’ve been told that spending all that cash on WMD would make us safe. Not another lie promulgated by the arms industry, surely?

Having heard all the war stories from my Uncle and Dad...............I would not want anyone going to war.

Scraping your blown up friend off the artillery wagon you drive doesn't sound like fun to me.

I'd give my kids the choice but I wouldn't blame them if they packed their bags and went to a remote island far away.

I get what your saying but at what point do those people change, I hope we don’t have to find out as by then it would be to late.

My thought is they wont change. If you're already at the bottom of the pile under the current system, what have you got to lose. At worst you will need to learn a new language.

Whilst we dont in reality know what would have happened to the average person if we would have lost WW2, my guess is that unless you were one of the marginalized groups (disabled, certain ethnicities etc) or in a position of power there would have been little difference.

It might have worked in the days before mass immigration where everyone who looked or spoke different was a potential invading foreigner (yes I know we have some who still think like that but thankfully a minority) but its not gonna work these days.
