Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

What was the full story with the aggro at the Maine Road massacre game?. Did loads of City sell their tickets to touts who flogged them to Utd fans, hence the violence or was there another story?
They also go on about how 50 of theirs stayed in the North Stand all game as City couldn't shift them
If 50 stayed in the NS all game that was a lot more than stayed in the Platt Lane the photo of those empty maroon benches is as iconic as Hinchcliffes goal in front of them all

It was pretty easy to get tickets for a Maine Road Derby in those days, United could have bought them from our ticket office because they wouldn't have needed previous purchase history, because most games were pay on the gate. City didn't have a real mob in the North stand because most went in the Kippax. If they wanted a scrap they should of got tickets for the Kippax
Not so about that one mate, plenty of lads frequented the North Stand as Leeds found out some time later.

Touts sold the tickets to rags but ask yourself how they all had seats grouped together and how could the touts manage to get their hands on so many tickets all together? Ask yourself how so many away fans can get seats together at the Etihad, obviously not in the numbers the rags had that day. The answer is that the original source in both cases is the same. Who has initial control of a batch of tickets?
All down to tickets office connections possibly. We had 30 in the Main Stand at OT 92/93 I think when the Stretford End was being redeveloped. All through United ticket office.
Pissing it down and another loss but the Ricky Holden songs were hilarious. OB had our back that day as they were all Blues.

Vouchers were given out at a previous game enabling people to buy tickets for that Derby. Anybody could grab a handful of the vouchers and get loads of their mates into the game.

I got a ticket in the uncovered stretford end that day it was pissing down with rain and were given rain macs to put on. You could tell who the City fans were as they wouldn’t put them on.
When Quinn scored a load of City fans jumped up celebrating in their main stand. I was told they were Chadderton blues that had managed to get the block.

For that game we had a double decker full and all had tickets for Utd Road lower. Bernard Buckley (Chadderton mob) had contacts in both City and Utd ticket offices back then. Rags really lairy until they realised how many of us were there.

Chadderton Blues were in United Road.

Love it. Stretford end is the only part of the swamp ive not been in. When i was still at school we would go the fence and tell the coppers we were City, they would let us walk around to our end. When older, fuck it, give it large and see who approaches. Nobody did. Never gone looking for it, but im Jekyll and Hyde when it comes to the rags.

The Guvnors had their own block towards the back of the North Stand for a few seasons. Always came in after kick off, probably been busy :)
Yep, remember being in the family stand 1987-88 season home to sheff utd, 10 minutes after kick off a big mob of nutters came and sat by us, I thought they were blades fans infiltrating the City end. Later realised it was the guvnors, looked a top mob

If you got sussed on your own by a bunch of miners or dockers you'd have nightmares for life.

Scousers with stanley knives wanting to re arrange your face.

Big ugly psycho fuckers wanting to stove your napper in.

It wasn't all a laugh.
