Steve Bannon believes next geopolitical battle will be fought over Canada’s Arctic & it's vast trove of natural resources/critical minerals

At the America's biggest annual Republican gathering, Steve Bannon, former chief strategist to Donald Trump, is hosting his War Room talk show from the sidelines of the Conservative Political Action Convention.

Dozens of people surrounded his CPAC set to watch his broadcast and to snap selfies with the man who helped first install Trump in the Oval Office in 2016.

His show included chats with supporters of Hungary's ultranationalist leader Victor Orban and "J6ers," whom he heralded as heroes for participating in the 2021 Capitol riots. When the 71-year-old got off stage, he heaped praise on the president's machinations to annex Canada.

"For (Trump) to even mention that, and to have the American people say, 'Hey, this is something we really like,' Canadians should take that as the greatest compliment you've ever had," Bannon said in an interview with CTV News.

Bannon believes that the next geopolitical battle will be fought over Canada's Arctic and the vast trove of natural resources and critical minerals that lie under its melting ice.

"What used to be Canada's most secure border – the Arctic North – you're going to have tremendous vulnerability there. … Russia is up there. The Chinese Communist Party is up there."

Since Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, the President has said he will ask NATO members to spend five per cent of their GDP on defence. Canada currently spends 1.37 per cent, with a goal of reaching the NATO baseline commitment of two per cent by 2032.

Bannon says Canada does not have the military might or stomach to protect its Arctic interests.

"I think that's highly unlikely with the Canadian budget, unless you want to cut your health care or your education system," said Bannon. "The math does not work. You're going to have major cuts to social programs or raise taxes significantly in Canada."

Why is everybody just watching?

Not only is the US turning into an authoritarian country, it’s also full of fucking cowards.
By intervening in that situation you are effectively green-lighting the regime to take affirmative action against its citizen's. The best thing they could do was record it and share it far and wide.

Possibly but it's looking increasingly likely that the decent people of the US will need to organise and actively resist. History tells us a relatively small cohort of extremists can quickly create an environment where resistance becomes increasingly difficult. As the Illinois Governor has said, if you let the initial embers catch light you are in a bad way.

Europe has to get it's shit in a pile quickly and similarly the US domestic resistance needs to coalesce and get organised asap.

'Effective resistance', yes; violence, no.

The moment citizens start to forcefully push back the regime will just use it as an excuse to impose 'special powers' and bypass normal democratic processes.

I know people don't want to admit it, but the USA is teetering in the brink of capitulation to a dictator without a single shot fired.

Always a good excuse, but I suppose they’d have an armed militia surrounding the place within minutes.

Been between altercations on a number of occasions, would you just watch on as somebody gets abused like that?

Yeah. But that’s probably coming.

Fearful of retribution rather than cowardice.
And that’s where society begins to fall apart.

Probably where we are now, where we would rather watch and record it than taking action to actually stop it.

Fear of retribution over moral values, equates to cowardice.

In my time I’ve seen my nan step in to stop a gang attacking another person. I’ve seen my dad step in and confront a group who attacked me as a kid. Also, I’ve seen my mum step in when the police tried to arrest somebody for something they hadn’t done.

Are we a nation of people who, not only stand aside when they see something going wrong, allowing the injustice to be done, but actively encourage it by recording it for a quick ‘Like’ on Facebook?

If you are confirming that this is where our nation is now at, we may as well give up all of what we once held proud.

Might at well be Russian.

There will be a time and a place, but that wasn't it.
