All EU countries can act unilaterally on defence and independent of the EU. There is no scenario where the Germans can tell the French, or the French the Italians what they can or cannot do when it comes to defending or protecting their country’s interests.

Choosing to act collectively, which will include ourselves, does mean their will be consultations and discussions, but that is no different to any allied grouping of sovereign nations.

This could turn ugly. Not saying it definitely will. Depends on how batshit crazy Trump and Vance get. If this insanity continues to grow then I can see civil disobedience taking quite a hold. Then who knows where it will end.

This is completely off the scale compared to his first term, as mental as that was.

I think you’re confusing “being in Europe” with “being in the European Union”.

We’ve not suddenly moved out of Europe.

Amazingly Ukraine has driven the Russians out of all but one part of Koltyne, which is basically surrounded.
Toretsk has been almost completely retaken according to some sources. Outstanding news on a day where everything is still changing!

A country torn apart at times during numerous wars is now producing rockets bankrolled by the uk to help a democratic county defend itself from an authoritarian dictatorship.

Now that’s progress and a true glimpse that wars can end and countries can find a way to co exist and indeed help each other prosper.

Once the despots leave the stage, hopefully Ukraine can find that peace.

I can remember talking to a young American manager of mine back in 2003 at the start of Iraq war. This guy was well educated, the son of a USAAF colonel and had lived in Japan.

He said that the war would be over in days, because the Iraqi's lived in nothing more than mud huts. Added to that, he had no idea where Iraq was on a map.

His history at school consisted primarily of state history (Texas), some federal and no global. His mother-in-law came up to visit by road on one occasion and crossing the border in the summer, was surprised to see there wasn't any snow!!

If these are educated people, then there isn't really much hope for the rest.

Because these 'decent people' can't do anything about it, it's a coup and it's here to stay. Nothing short of civil war will make any change.

Do you think for one moment that now these people (and I believe there are far more involved than the Trump/Musk duo) are in this position, they are going to relinquish the power. Sitting and waiting four years is not going to matter one iota, there will be NO elections in four years!!!

The whole world is about to change and Europe is on it's own, so they'd better get their shit together as a unit and not be a bunch of squabbling, selfish individuals to survive.
