Reminder as to what the Vicar of Rome himself thinks of the MAGA crowd

Sadly there's a not insignificant rump of Catholic clergy who would be happy to see the Holy Father dead, they bang on about theology and the dangers of a Jesuit being head of the Church, but I suspect the real reason is because he's got their number and has been calling them out as authoritarians who are more than a bit too keen on exercising earthly power for their own vanity and benefit.

If there's a choice between defending the dispossessed including to your own immediate detriment or siding with a powerful oppressor, the New Testament could hardly make it any clearer what the answer is; but that won't stop some of them siding with the current shit show. Even putting aside the morality for a moment, for people who get a bloody good education some of them are seemingly too dumb to learn the lessons of history. I think it's you that's been referencing Martin Niemoller's 'First They Came' poem ? I wonder how many of the senior American Catholic clergy currently kowtowing to this administration have been to Dachau where they had the 'priest barracks' ?

I remember one year Biden, who is also a Catholic, was mocked by a conservative commentator for the remnants of his ashes being visible. Seems times change.

The symbolism of ashes is quite important. They are supposed to be a sign of humility and repentance. Throughout biblical times people used ashes to mark themselves as a sinner who needed to buck up their ideas (sackcloth and ashes etc). The ashes themselves come from burning the palm leaves from the previous years Palm Sunday celebration which commemorates Jesus's entry to Jerusalem to great acclaim. This is relevant because not long after that 'triumph' he was subjected to a torturous death. One of the two things a priest can say when they mark the ashes on the forehead in the shape of a cross is "remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return" (from the book of Genesis at the star of the bible). So the point of all this being they symbolise the fleeting and transitory nature of life, the fact that material possessions and praise are emphemeral. This is all to get you in the right frame of mind for Lent (which Ash Wednesday marks the start of) which is the time of preparation for Easter. The goal in this time is threefold: to act more charitably primarily to those worse off than you, to think more spiritually and pray more and finally the one people think of most with Lent; the giving something up bit i.e. deny yourself some worldly pleasure to remind you that life isn't just about you and your immediate sensations and wants.

I have no idea what was going on in Sean Spicer's head as those ashes were being applied but that's what any Catholic trying to take it seriously should be focused on. I'm assuming Vance would have done the same yesterday too. Though Catholicism is clear that only God truly knows what is going on in someone's heart and that it's God's right alone to judge; I will confess to being utterly bewildered how the actions of the Catholics in the current US administration align to either the period of Lent we have entered or to the Catholic faith in general.

I realise they'll be some sky fairy comments which is fine but for anyone who wondered what they were that's basically the gist.
Maybe they should give up been cunts first 40 days

Immediately reminded me of this classic from Viz. Although having had the misfortune of recently being in a cybersuck (it was an Uber), I can tell you that it’s far from Ayran spacious on the inside. I’ve no idea how something so grossly oversized can barely fit three adults in the back seat. It’s like a fucking reverse Tardis.

Would be a start. Maybe 40 days and 40 nights of contemplation in the Mojave Desert will do them and everyone else some good.
I quite like the Mojave Desert. I'll dig out some pic's later. I've come across loads of empty shell casings up there, from .22 rim fire all the way up to .50 cal. You could definitely 'disappear' a whole load of people up in the California High Deserts.

Will anybody attend the FIFA World Cup next year? This tourney is massively fucked. Can't see a lot of visitors, who in his right mind will travel over there anyways? This will be a massive blow to the sport. I know first world problems but I just saw that picture of Trump with the trophy behind him again.

Who in their right mind would book in advance.
Who knows what state the place could be in by then.

I hope not, I can see lots of demos in stadiums via flags etc, booing of the USA anthem, imagine Ukraine qualifying and playing the USA that’ll be fun, plus imagine him been in the stadium if Canadians, Mexicans and many ktgers who he’s pissed off there.

Yes it could be Berlin 1936 vibes all over the place. But I think the even bigger move would be empty stadiums and a big blow into the corrupt face of Infantilo and his gang.

There might be some effect but the 2026 WC was always going to sell most of its tickets to local diasporas, not foreign tourists. Stadiums will be far from empty.
