The Pro Road Cycling Thread

Absolutely hilarious scenes at the Tour Algarve as 70% of the peloton took the wrong road near the finish, Ganna didn’t though and carried the day, it’s actually been a good few days for Ineos with three wins in three days
I was in Spain for the match this week. My lad messaged me “Just watched the Volta ao algarve stage 1 highlights xx absolutely ridiculous!! Xx”
I finally caught up with it last night after mistakenly sitting through 2 hours of stage 1 of Ruta del Sol (and thinking “that didn’t look too controversial”). I had no idea what was going to happen but you could see one policeman looked flummoxed as they whistled right instead of left!

Interesting update from Ganna here. Nothing revelatory but just his plans for the season ahead. A couple or 3 years ago he was the go to man for TTs but since the further development of Remco his star has waned a bit I guess. With Remco sadly likely to be out for half a season (at the very least) I’ll be interested to see if he can come to the fore again.

On another note, the Giro 2025 route presentation is (finally) happening today, 6pm CET on Discovery etc.

His sub four minute 4000 m pursuit ride puts him in the pantheon of track greats.

Well that’s the end of the Eurosport era supposedly the cycling will be on TNT 1=4 and tomorrow’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad supposedly on TNT2 from 12.00 I’m not overly confident.

Yeah. Hmm, I’m sure it will indeed be on those channels. A massive step backwards for the sport imho.

Very sad I loved watching the cycling I will really miss it. In facted I'm really pissed of about. Used to watch the one day classic from start to finish.

It's hard to believe I won't be watching cycling any more and this is probably my last season of going to the Etihad as well
I have this faint (naive) hope that Discovery will soon realise they’ve made an error, de-couple the cycling and offer it as a standalone.

Even something like £9.99 on a rolling contract would still bring them more revenue than before, and the TNT football etc could carry on as before & let’s be honest wouldn’t lose any of their pre-existing viewers anyway.

It honestly doesn’t make sense on any level.

Looks like UK will hosting the TDF grand depart in 2027. shame no will be able to watch it.

Think I read Discovery will be airing a cycling show on quest but wont show any live cycling on it.

pretty gutting as it was watching robert millar on alpe d'huez or laurent fignon vs greg lemond that got me and my mates cycling. even Chris froome running with his bike inspired my lad ( who has dyspraxia) learn to ride.

Interesting about the TDF 27, hadn’t heard that - any rumours as to which part of the UK is gonna get the honour?

Brilliant win for Vollering earlier on, making the break with about 12km left then putting the hammer down on the iconic Siena last km climb. Think she enjoyed the win too. She gets quite emotional, and clearly there’s still a lot of resentment burning after the events of last season.

Looking forward to watching Pogacar etc after the match.
The unofficial 6th Monument for me, and Tuacany always looks fabulous on the screen too :-)
