Pog & Pidcock putting on a show this afternoon
He looked like Jesus at the scourging pillar! And still mullered everyone. Shame he’s not doing Paris Nice or Tirreno. He could probably win both simultaneously. He’s such a great rider and he rides everything- true champion.

Re it being a Monument; Adam Blythe had it right “Give it another 50 years minimum and it might, just might be in consideration.”!!!!

Yeah ok Adam. I mean if I was being harsh MSR is nothing like a Monument for the first 5 and a half hours or whatever, but ok …

On a another note, ITV4 showing free to air highlights of Paris Nice all week, 7pm, so at least that’s something :-)

I remember Kelly winning Paris Nice 7 years on the spin (Think his run was finally ended by Roche) It looked fucking freezing which is probably why he won it so often!

MSR is beautiful because if its length, not despite it. Check out Kelly’s win for quite possibly the fastest and certainly scariest descent off the Poggio ever seen.

Yep I appreciate that but, lol, it’s length is all anyone (mostly) ever talks about. Let’s put it like this, it’s the only Monument I only ever watch the last hour of; the other 4 I’ll watch start to finish if I can.

Maybe the Strade Bianchi organisers just need to extend it to 298km and bob’s your uncle ;-)

One of THE great joys of ITV cycling over the years has been their wonderful use of music, esp on their outros.
In the Shazam era things are so much easier than they used to be.

Anyway, another gem tonight on Paris Nice

Some incredibly grim weather in Europe at the moment for these 2 one week races by all accounts.

Would love to have seen Ganna and especially Tarling do the business today.

Well, latest today is that Scotland nailed on for at least the start of the 2027 Grand Depart :-)

Looking forward to the first Monument of the season on Saturday afternoon.

Can Pog do it?!
Personally I’d love to see it, then for him to go on and take Paris Roubaix. To see a rider win everything in the sport, how amazing that would be … I was too young for Eddie, but this would be so, so special.

And Scotland confirmed for stage one. An English and a Welsh stage too gives me hope the English stage will be second and include the north and/or the midlands, then on to Wales for Stage 3 :-)

shame that by then you will have to pay Disney to watch it on tv
I know what you mean. It’s a long way off and much can happen before then, but it wouldn’t surprise me if some kind of arrangement was reached to allow free to air coverage of those 3 stages for UK viewers though.

I’m hoping to be roadside for all three, but it really should be available for UK viewers without having to shell out £30 plus.

It would put Pog one step closer to the rarified air breathed only by Merckx, Van Looy and de Vlaminck. That said, Eddie inhabits a separate cyclosphere where only he and he alone lives. 7 MSRs!!! 19 Monuments.
I think Pog will win Saturday- he’ll get an unassailable gap on the Poggio.

Hope so, but not sure I’m as confident as you - don’t think it’s steep enough for long enough.
Lots of courage needed on the descents - esp as I think rain forecast tomorrow…

It’s a fucking long race, as you know. 7 hours; just think he’ll have more in the tank after such a long time. It’s one thing climbing the Poggio and sprinting without 7 hours in the legs. Quite another with it.
If not Pog I’d love Ganna to do it. Road brilliantly in Tirreno. And just love anyone that can put out 8 million watts with a 64!tooth big ring!

Fair comment and agreed about the difference of doing it after so many km with so much fatigue in the legs (though with all those long flat sections, a lot of hiding can be done in the peleton!), and also agree about Ganna - been a long time fan of his since his track days.
