He's not just been poor he's been awful.

Whatever the issue, I can't see why Pep keeps picking him.
Because he’s a fucking incredible player, came through the academy, won POTY last year and been involved in pretty much everything we’ve won in the last 6 years.

God, 1 poor season and we throw him to the wolves.

You don't pick a professional sports team on sentiment. Sentiment is for fans.

Repeatedly picking a player who is clearly off form (for whatever reason) does no more than expose them to criticism.

The simple fact is that Phil has looked disinterested in games and has been one of our least effective players this season, but Pep continues to select him ahead of Grealish, Nunes, McAtee etc.

As I've said, the player is still in there but personally, I believe that he needs a change of either club, coach, or both, to get back on track.

I reckon he’s just played to much football from a very early age and appears to be ‘burnt out’, the lad needs a good rest to ‘reset’ and rediscover his love for the game.

We all wish him the best and for him to perform like we know he is capable of.

Backing the lad to get back into form?

Not exactly 'elite level' coaching is it?

As long as we're still pushing for CL qualification, we shouldn't be picking players who are so far off the top of their game. Particularly when alternatives are available.

On this season's form, I'd even see Nunes as a better starter than Phil.

Phil can hopefully get back on track for next season.

Exactly. The problem is that modern football places demands on top players for 50/51 weeks of the year.
Phil will obviously be desperate to stay in the England squad for the World Cup campaign and won't want a lengthy break.

Rodri was right about burnout. Pep doesn't seem to agree.

Well documented fact is Phil had an appendix operation last year.
Crohn’s disease can follow from appendix problems which has been allegedly suggested he is now suffering from.
This disease is serious and will be difficult to cope with.
Just saying
A friend of min told me he had some respiratory issues early in the season, had a chest infection and couldn't shake it off. Not sure how true it was. Crohn's or colitis etc are pretty serious diseases and can totally ruin your life. Hope he gets the support he needs, Doesn't help when Tuchal comes and criticises him like he did especially if he is mentally fragile right now.

You don't think Tuchel would of known if there was an issue? They get tested on international duty

I think the medical staff at City and England would know of any medical issues. Like I said from what somebody told me, he had a problem following an illness but this was back in Aug/Sept time. Had struggled for the bulk of the 1st half of the season. As for his mental issues, I'm sure the Psychs at City and England know about.

He's trying his heart out but things are not going as well for him, doesn't need slating from all angles though. I'm as frustrated as the next man. His head went west after that mistake at Arsenal that led to their 2nd goal just shows these guys are also human and need an arm around their shoulder
