The Labour Government

Absolute madness. No wonder people cross continents to come to the UK.

Never mind poor 80yr old Mrs Brown who has lived in Urmston all her life and can't afford to heat her house. She will sleep well knowing the council are spending her tax wisely.
It was a government scheme, partly guilt from not getting out the people who'd helped British forces in Afghanistan after the Trump "peace deal" with the Taliban. Turns out Mrs Brown came here as a Hungarian child refugee in 1956.

No one is crossing continents and risking their lives crossing the channel for a fucking driving lesson. Christ on a fucking bike, it’s like bizarro world on here sometimes.

Post looks like a weeks worth of daily mail front pages. Just needs a pic of a sponging royal to complete the set..

I thought my response may rile a few on here. But the simple fact is although I'm in favour of taking in asylum seekers and immigration in general for several obvious reasons, there are a few issues that really concern me.

With regards to Afghans, I was never in favour of us going along with the USs war on terror, then we spent billions and lost hundreds of British Soldiers lives defending Afghan freedoms only to have them back the Taliban when a dozen or so of them flew back a few days after we left. That just doesn't sit right with me. They had a choice, but they rolled over without even putting up a fight. You make your own luck to a degree in this life, they didnt even bother to try imo.

Immigration nowadays is 10 to 20 times the rate that it was in the 1950s. These are unsustainable numbers that put immense strain on public services and housing. Pushing up house prices and making the economy struggle, just look at the figures currently they don't stack up anywhere and alot of these issues are exasperated by the current high immigration rates. My children will struggle to get on the housing ladder and this is mainly down to demand outstripping supply, and this concerns me. Labour won't meet its housing targets and even if they did it wouldn't go anywhere near to solving the lack of housing.

Clearly not all assylum seekers and immigrants are coming here for free driving lesson's, but many are definitely coming for a better way of life and some for state provided benefits, its naive in the extreme to think otherwise, why wouldn't they? I would be looking for a better way of life if I were them.

Finally when we accept asylum seekers and migrants, they should not be getting better services than our current UK residents do, end of. Do you think they turned down the heating in that hotel in Altrincham this winter, when the bills got high? But 80 Yr old Mrs Brown and many like her couldn't afford her heating. Same with healthcare, I understand that local residents were told by Trafford Council that those in that hotel wouldn't impact local NHS Services as they would be bring in Private health care services for them. Really?

Now you may be entirely happy with all the above, but I'm not, I believe the current situation is unsustainable.

The most vocal Labour posters on here have always said they are on the left but I’m beginning to doubt that claim as they continue to cheerlead what this government is doing.

Cold War Steve is further left than most, it’s not surprising to see him criticising their recent policies, regardless of posters on here.

I would have thought most on here would consider themselves centrist though. Given how far the Overton windows gone to the right though, as well as us importing more and more American style rhetoric and division, maybe they do consider themselves left, the terms have become pretty meaningless to me tbh!

Define ‘get to grips with’? Should they starve or live on the streets? Does that help you or anyone else?

Instead of meaningless phrases, spell out your solution. Go.
Giving them jobs like community service while they’re living for free in our communities, with free accommodation, free food, free phones, free internet, free driving lessons, free money, extra free money for getting knocked up, free prescriptions, free dental care, free eye tests, reduced prices on glasses, free school meals for kids…

They should be out in the community litter picking, cleaning graffiti off walls, trimming hedges, cutting grass, planting flowers, emptying bins, cleaning windows etc.

While the community can’t have their usual meetings, training, Christmas parties, wakes, 21sts, 50ths, proms, weddings, or just stay for the night/weekend etc. at these hotels which they were built for and were used for previously.

Anyone can claim to be a centrist if they look hard enough to find extremes. In the bluemoon range of posters not a lot has changed on here over the years, a lot of self proclaimed centrists have either

Always been Tory wets but lied
Have suddenly become Tory wets coincidentally following the election result
Are just sticking up for their man because they invested a lot of time saying how much better he/they would be.

I’ve always found it strange that this sort of thing hasn’t happened already.

I would think that asylum seekers, fleeing conflicts and oppression as a few people on here still appear to believe, would be happy to make a contribution to society and get to know the country they are seeking to live in. So it appears to be a win-win, given that opposition to the cost of housing them in hotels etc would also probably diminish.

The so called asylum seekers and small boat arrivals, how does anybody know where they have come from? They destroy any documentation before they get here.

They are here for one thing only the Welfare State, paid for by you and me.

No issue with asylum seekers doing voluntary work nor is it against the rules as I understand them, although I don’t imagine your average window cleaner or gardening service or whatever being happy to find a group of people doing their work for free.

But I am sure there is work to be done that isn’t classed as paid work or undercutting someone already providing that service.

I remain confident those seeking to hold Christmas parties, weddings, anniversaries etc will find a suitable venue to hold their various shindigs and that whining about it is no way an example of shallow entitlement #firstworldproblems
