PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

There's nothing to say that a journalist has to be treated as an enemy. They have largely been treated as such by City fans because of what they have written about City. In this press conference I hope they pressed Pep harder on the verdict in the post-embargo section. We all would if we were there but what we don't know is what the press officer says to the journalists before they start i.e., certain questions might be off-limit.

The post-embargo section will emerge later. I don't know if Pep speaks to some journalists off the record.

It doesn't matter, he won't know anything. Imho.

Explaining why you're fucking up socially is not "an emotional response" mate, its more an attempt at a bit of guidance. 17 years I've been a mod here now and people still consider them and their situations novel and important.
Wow mate. Calm down, stop being so emotional with your responses. It’s the internet.

I think its a courtesy to the press to enable them to have something interesting and new to say for their print run. With press conferences streamed live, if the whole thing was live then no one would buy papers or go on their websites. If they delay a section of the press conference, the media gets some exclusivity
Increasingly irrelevant though. The embargo is until 2230 at which point it can be played reported or played in full, tweeted or whatever. The idea that nobody who is interested will have to buy a newspaper to read it is so old hat it could be a Tricorne……..

My memory has let me down again, I just checked and my first game was actually 78, Southampton again funnily enough, we lost of course, setting my expectations for the following 3 decades!
Same for me, a loss for my 1st game, City 2 -3 Leeds.
Hardened me for the next 34 yrs

The UAE wouldn't exist without Al Suwaidi. When Sheikh Zayed wanted to unite the states, under one Government (mainly through bribery), Al Suwaidi was the guy they sent around to the other leaders with the money and offers. He was considered to have been a huge part of bringing in the smaller non Abu Dhabi/Dubai tribes.

A lot of the information on the history of the UAE and its setup actually comes from places like the CIA. And they generally consider the familial, loyalty and power structures to be completely impenetrable to anybody who isn't an actual member of the UAE ruling class. Nobody understands who works for who, who is powerful and who is just a name or nepotism hire. Who works at where and in what roles. Not Government intelligence agencies, let alone The Athletic.

Their culture is a polygamous society where family honor and duty is considered paramount. As I mentioned at the time, Sheikh Mansour is UAE Vice President as a punishment to the Dubai ruling family for embarrassing the country by needing a financial bailout. Sheikh Mansour has 21 siblings by Western definitions. He has 6 by UAE definitions. Though if any of the remaining 15 were to embarass themselves then it would be the fault of the UAE President (the head of the 6) who doesn't consider them family in the way we do and would be a major scandal. They're more akin to how we would view distant cousins.

The relationship between the current head of the Al Suwaidis and the current head of the Al Nahyan families (MBZ) is a much more "influential" one on the UAE Presidency than one of MBZ's brothers (in the 15) on MBZ. That doesn't make sense to Western ideas, how can some guy your Dad knew have more influence over you than your own brother?

These stories don't mean anything because there's about 4 families in Abu Dhabi (well, 1 and 2 quarters I guess) who own anything and they're all inter married. This how we get shit like this and the "Man City paid Michael Oliver" nonsense. It's impossible to do any sort of business in the entire UAE without being able to link it to anybody else in the UAE.
honour"

still, a very informative read.
thank you.

Not sure I agree with you about that. Many of the most interesting stories break after 10.30pm precisely because the journalists know they will have some rights to that story.

Newsflow is controlled by football clubs and the media. We knew for example that there might be some limited news coming out of City at 12.30pm and there might be more snippets when the embargoed news is released.

I've always been interested in news. Used to be looking out of the window to see what was on the hoardings of the MEN placards, or teletext screen for the Clubcall and Teamtalk headlines. How pathetic was that!

Now press conferences control information flow. They will spawn huge amounts of plagiarised data uploads/downloads.

I think the early 60s were much different to the second half of the decade. Hooliganism really took off mid 60s. I remember the 1968 derby at Maine road being brutal. You might have seen an isolated one on one punch up in the early 60s but not widespread violence
Same here. I remember a hail of pennies ,the old big ones for the youngsters on here, with some being sharpened so they cut your heads coming from the red scu m in the corner of the kippax.

Mine was the 4-1 win at Old toilet 12 December 1970. A present for my 13th birthday. Glyn broken leg, Lee won pen scored ( last pen until Erls in 2023 fpr us at that leaky grim place) and the 1970 victory was so easy it set a false narrative for the decades following a decade later. Rot started imo with Spuds 1981 FA Cup og and replay robbery.....

Only two were spliced together although some (Mancini?) came out after the fact I think. We could do with a timeline on here :(
Yes I know it was only 2 as it was a lazy sarcastic response. The Mancini contract, as long as the correct tax was paid won't come under fraud & the Fordham image rights were known about by Uefa, so I can't see how the EPL can say we've concealed a fraud
