Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

So we are the epitome of a one man team, and Pep has created that? A huge loss to us this season no doubt, but many other equally important factors have affected us.

I would say that, rather than a one man team, it's more like a one man system that Pep has created. Following on from his 'main man' Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri took over as the key man in the way Pep wants to play. The midfield controller.

Pep has struggled with the system since Rodri was injured. There's no control.

Bringing Gundogan back was Pep's hope that he could still control the game as he did for four or five seasons. Sadly, he can't anymore, even with the support of Kovacic / Nico, and we are where we are.

Pep put all his eggs in the Rodri basket, and hasn't been able to adapt his system to cover his absence. We're a very average, ageing side without Rodri.

Seems there are still a fair few people in denial about how average we are currently and how dysfunctional the team has been this season.
I don't come on this thread but reading it it seems like there's a fair few people in denial about City's calm and considered long term approach to everything. No fucking way will Pep ever be sacked from this club, and quite rightly.

I don’t think anyone on the thread has said that Guardiola will be sacked, or should be sacked. More a discussion of whether he will choose to leave either this summer or next.

That said, given what’s happened this year and the need to replace such a large number of players over the course of just a couple of transfer windows, it’s probably fair to say that some have less confidence than yourself in City’s calm and considered long term approach to everything.

There's nothing there I can disagree with. Whether it's the system or the player the outcome will be similar, unless there's a stand in with comparable qualities.Maybe Nico Gonzalez can be that type, time will tell. It's a massive gamble when/if you become reliant on one player in any team.
Imo our problems have been down to other factors alongside the absence of Rodri. Ageing and past it players, injuries to other squad members, players being totally out of form, some players not good enough, ridiculous error strewn performances, tactics and substitutions etc. It's been a concoction of issues I feel, but some have been felt more than others.

I thought Pep's comment about Nunes being "too stupid" was terrible. Bad form regardless of language barriers (not that i think this is the case here).
Awful soundbite, and unfair to the player who's trying his best. Wouldn't surprise me if he looks to leave after that.

I feel player management is Peps and the clubs weak spot.

Yes.

Some believe that it’s time for a change, or are getting to that point, and others believe that he may choose to walk. Others are highlighting how his decisions are becoming harder to understand, or are at least putting him under more scrutiny.

People aren’t asking for him to be sacked though.
/Thread.

Good summary and quite correct.

Xavi Alonso and his coaching staff are at the CFA today apparently. Wonder if they’ve come to show “past his best” Pep how things are done.
Could be anyone’s guess why he’s here. I’d say it’s “I’ve got two years left but I’ll cut a year short if you commit to us in summer 2026”. Wirtz signs for us this summer and has a year under Pep.

I think he’s destined for Madrid this summer and we’ve tried to get in there before he signs up with them. He isn’t turning down Madrid this summer because the City job may be available in a year, so what I’ve said is probably complete bollocks.

Maybe Pep and Viana are filling him in to be Pep's successor at the end of his contract but I figured he was off to Madrid at the end of the season.
