He said yesterday that he was pain free now that his hernia problem has cleared up, it might have been slightly premature to call time on his City career and there again he could get another injury. It's a difficult one to call.

He won’t be playing for another premier league club and certainly not Liverpool as there budgets will not allow it especially after spending in salah and dick van dyke . Kev has had a terrible season by his standards and he turn up yesterday but will probably miss the next game but tbh I’d like to see him get another season over b silva gundo kova as he can still win you a game .

Why are people ignoring the fact kev has himself said he is now playing pain free? You can see it from watching him. He is moving much better. On top of that even in his prime he always needs a few games to get back into his groove.

He has had a hernia. That has now been resolved. Yesterday again proved he is still our best player. We are letting him go at least a year early imo

Good point, and one that I think applies to several of our key players this season, who have played on through pain to help out the team and have played poorly as a result.

It’s not been a case of Kev and the club not talking to one another and it suddenly being a shock to him that he’s not got a new deal.

That’s not me being ITK, that’s just obviously how deals do or don’t get done in football. And especially our club, and especially for a club legend like KDB. It won’t be as cut-throat as the majority are making out. It’ll have been a tough call but not a case of Kev getting a call out the blue last week to say tough shit.

It’ll have been a negotiation, us offering (informally) what we view his role to be, him doing the same and ultimately no deal could be made so now’s the time to part ways.

Shame, because days like today show he’s still the best in the league but he did look slow at some points today where he was caught off guard on the ball. But we obviously need to rebuild the team and the difference between his wages being on and off the books I presume will be massive when negotiating for new players.
I am sure you are right that he just didn’t turn up for training and there was a line where everyone was told “step forward if you are here next year, not so fast DeBruyne!”!! However…. I can’t understand how he is not good enough for next season but… with six games to go this season he is good enough to start every game. That must mean we must have a replacement. Like Kane was for Aguero…. I know we ended up with Haaland but nevertheless it seems high risk unless we def have someone lined up. I fear we are hoping to get someone but end up with another Matteus Nunes type buy

Just seen a few Liverpools fans on twitter say they’ll get him on the cheap. Who’s going to tell them?

I don't think it works financially more than anything else. The club aren't going to chuck him under the bus and make it public but I suspect he is reluctant to take a major drop in wages when he could still command that elsewhere. I agree the hernia has had a big affect but we can't take the gamble he will spring back to life next season and pay him Ballon D'or level wages.

It's a tough call but I think we're making the right decision on this one, Kev is one of our greatest players but apart from yesterday he has been a shadow of it this season. Silva and Sergio probably could have done another season or two aswell (not accounting for what happened with Aguero's heart condition, that couldn't have been predicted and he scored in El Clasico a few weeks before he had to retire) but it was the right call to let them go when we did. He takes a major chunk of the wage bill and we need to invest heavily in the Summer.

I dont think this was an easy decision for the club at all, but they need to focus on blooding and bringing in the next generation of City legends. I hate it, but I get it. He will be sorely missed.
They were saying on SSN earlier that in his 10 years with us, he's started (iirc) 82% of PL games. Which is none too shabby. But that in the last two seasons, that has drastically dropped. Somewhere between 10-15 starts in each season. It's a shame, but injuries and age are catching up on him.

It is not just Gerard it is all of them. If Rodri stays a few more years then the best midfieled pair eould be those two all time. I would have 3-4 of City’s players over the last few tears in an all time 11.
