Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

He touched the ball, he didn’t get possession of the ball though, it hardly moved and was still in the attackers line. The contact was pretty obvious to me, in real time I was surprised he didn’t give it with Dias running across the line.
There were numerous example of players making tackles last night where they touched the ball (away from their opponent)and not getting procession Im interested to know why you think that is a criteria for it not to be a foul?

As usual, we (on coverage) and the ref (on VAR) are only shown certain images. The shot from the dead ball line facing Ramsay, clearly shows both his feet on the floor after he has passed Ruben - and then he straightens them for the con. That angle when added to the fact it wasn't a clear and obvious error means he should have said no, but he was shown the reverse image over and over. Ramsay himself didn't really appeal and looked relieved he wasn't booked.

Was the contact enough? Not given in real time = reasonable doubt. They just had to get involved.

Actually, looking at that. we have committed less fouls than any other premiership team. With the exception of Brentford, were committed over a 100 less than everyone else.

You’ve said it yourself, away from their opponent.

Just watching it on tv now, Ruben clearly touches the ball BEFORE contact, so is that (a) really a pen? (b) a clear and obvious error? (c) does b apply if it’s a pen in the views of VAR? For the record I thought POORson was generally shite last night, as usual

I thought he was shite all round. I wouldn't limit it just to us. He didn't give the pen initially remember but was weak to overturn it when it wasn't clear and obvious. He booked Digne when De Bruyne dived, nobody is arsed when it goes in our favour, as I say I just think he was really poor

I've listen to around 5/6 ex footballers and they all say can't believe referee never gave it! Is it our own bias thinking it was not or marginal? Or is it the grey area in the var rules that make you believe it ain't a penalty if there referee didn't give it on field and the high rule they set is why we believe it shouldn't be given!?

Pep can't question his impartiality without risking all sorts of bother, but he can question the ludicrous inconsistency.
He could also question the fouls to card ratio as we seem to get a lot more cards than our opponents when committing the same number of fouls.
This is the problem with pgmol, they attack people for making the accusations rather than look as to why those accusations are made, they are going about the problem backwards which seems to be the norm for modern football and then instead of the refs being made to come out and say why a certain decision is made publicly they are hidden away until the furore dies down and then just given another game, there is no literally no technical reason that the conversation between var and the referee cant be made available to all concerned and the fact that they steadfastly refuse to do so and consistently refuse to be transparent in their dealings does suggest that they are dodgy, international rugby and cricket all make their var conversations for everybody to hear yet football refuses to do so.

if that is the new threshold for a penalty i would suggest you are going to say ten penalties a game if all you have to do to get a penalty is run into an opposition player in the penalty and fall over regardless of whether the pl has made a challenge or not.

I'd be more willing to believe it was a legitimate penalty if we hadnt had hundreds of penalty appeals turned down, usually with more contact and usually with the commentators saying "he was looking for it" or "there wasn't enough in it"

Pawson was terrible last night for both teams. As many bad decisions against us there were some where I thought we’d given away a clear foul and he played on. Awful performance, says it all when both sets of fans chant you’re not fit to referee.

I kind of get that as watching it live I thought it was a penalty straight away. Pawsons angle wasn’t great for seeing the contact though.

I would imagine that the several rugby tackles on haaland per game will now be given a penalty

Yet none (nearly) ever given for the constant fouling in the box at corners.
It seems they use the bollocks of 'not every foul is a foul' line as it suits depending on teams/fixtures
