His market value was 18-25 million; Porto could get 50 million for him because we were desperate for a CDM in the winter transfer window.

I presume you've been reading websites/watching videos which give a ludicrously low (/guess at a) player's market value...?

He was a mainstay in their team, coming mid-season, a fantastic player, a young player who will develop even more, a La Masia product and, let's face it, every bastard and their dog knew we needed a midfielder.

A player's value isn't just their current ability, it's a whole range of things and, personally, I think he'll turn out to be a bargain. Much like Rodri has done.

Has to be one for the future, as he's not getting in the side before Gundogan and Kovacic it has to be deemed as a panic buy.

Then again, Pep might not have been too enthused by what he's seen so far, and he's probably got the agreement off the majority of the supporters to be fair.

Thing is we are in a winning mode again, so that's all that matters for now

£50m was his reported release clause. If you look at the media before we were linked, it was discussed numerous times, with various clubs looking to buy and that likely price mentioned. Liverpool were linked all over the place, and I can't see any suggestion that they would get him for £18-25m. If anything, the narrative was that Porto would want to hold onto him, even at £50m, but the release clause meant they'd have little choice.

Thats down to Pep shitting himself and not trusting people and reverting back to the old guard.

He's started two of the last three games, so not sure where the narrative that Pep has gone off him comes from.

We're also in the unusual position of mostly playing one game a week. Gundogan can do that, whereas when we were playing every few days, the older players were struggling, and it's likely why Gonzalez came in and played most PL games. With all the midfield fit, and not as many games, it's not a surprise that Pep is going with his more experienced team.

It's probably also worth bearing in mind, that people are judging him as a Rodri replacement, when he's played the majority of his top tier games in centre midfield, and has only been an occasional stand in at DM.

Not saying he's gone off him, but here are the stats last few games

Villa - Unused sub

Everton - Played 78 - subbed

Palace - Played full match

Rags - Unused sub

Leicester - played full match

Bournemouth -(Cup) -Sub came on 83 mins

Forest - Played 61 - subbed

Pattern formed on the opposition clearly

He hasn't started any of the FA cup matches since arriving, and he's started 4 out of the other 6 you mentioned. In the middle of that run, he also played the full game against Madrid away.

Most of it is absolutely what we'd expect from Pep. We've had years where the more experienced players play a less risky game against the tougher opponents. We've had years of players having a run of games, and then dropping back into rotation for a few games so they get a rest - in almost every case they come back a few matches later.

If anything, the anomaly is that he's started so many games as a new player - but I suspect a lot of that was due to Silva, Gundo and Kovacic having been overplayed, and needing more of a rest. They've all been getting much better reviews in the last few games, so it seems to be working too.
