I guess the main difference is the tories took them in when they failed whereas this is Labour policy.

I think it’s a good policy if they can bring it all together.

Well it will at least stop the continuous claims and counter claims between the train operator and network rail if they are brought together. How we then move forwards and stop being rinsed on train leasing costs by the likes of Porterbrook, Angel Trains and HSBC/Eversholt is another matter.

No chance with water would cost too much. That’s not to say it’s a bad idea just can’t see any government committing to doing it.

Trains is “cost free” but comes at a political cost. They’ll now face strikes, delays, etc etc and it’ll all be on the government. It’s the right thing to do but they’ll do well to remember that no good deed goes unpunished.

Is it odd that they make a big deal of the first train company nationalised by Labour but don't mention all the ones that the Tories have nationalised? Including East Coast, that they then reprivatised only for it to fail again...

Because I'm desperately trying to avoid what I should be doing, I just searched for the C word on this thread and checked the first 15 pages of results it returned. There was a lot to go through so I filtered it to take out Don K's use in relation to Starmer which was helpful as it dropped the count by 87% :-). I can find no use of it in the claimed fashion unless BigJoe is actually the BM user name for any of:

• Starmer
• Streeting
• Reeves

In which case, yes then he's getting called it on a regular basis. Use outside of these three seems to be relatively sparse or simply as a term of mild affection between posters.

I may be naive but I don't understand why the bargaining groups are so fragmented. They spout solidarity and yet they want inflation busting payrises beyond what is potentially obtainable by peers.

And what is their leverage? The safety and wellbeing of patients and the desperation of Labour to improve waiting list times.

At this rate and if Labour caves then every single funding increase is going to be swallowed up by pay rises. The NHS is unfixable within its existing funding and operational model.

I’d say that the Junior Doctors (or whatever they are called now) will lose sympathy with the people they purport to care for. Last year they saw an unprecedented salary increase which I fully supported as long as it wasn’t a continuous grab for themselves (considering what other NHS staff received). However, it now looks like they want full restoration within a few years, telling everybody else in the line to fuck off because they have leverage.

I’d have thought some of the adults in the room would have looked at the direction of the country and said ‘Let’s wait-out, things look to be getting better and we have the government on our side in the future’.

Will they lose support from the country if they push it too far?
