The Conservative Party

What is funny?
Jenrick has highlighted that fare evasion on the tube is endemic. From his observations he estimates that one in 25 passengers haven't paid. From my own experience I would say that may not be too far off the mark . Therefore TFL are losing 4% of revenue to fare evasion - that is a £100 Million p.a. this is not a small issue and the problem is growing. The law abiding majority pay for this, as they pay for the epidemic of shoplifting that similarly goes unchallenged.
He has done this at some risk to his own safety whilst security and TFL staff look the other way, TFL have since confirmed that their staff are not to challenge fare evaders.
Where does this end ?
We need more of this, well done Jenrick for calling this out and being on the side of the law abiding majority who chose to pay their way.
Whose side are you on ?
"He has done this at some risk to his own safety"...

And TfL staff wouldn't be at risk?

Hence the TfL targeted approach to fare evasion.

How do TFL measure that exactly ? How on earth do they imagine it is going down ? Given that they don't disagree it is worth around £100 Million you might think they would do something about it instead of Khan begging for more taxpayers money and raising fares.
In regard to Turkish barbers - see my reply above to @I'm With Stupid.
He may be the MP for Nottingham but he is also shadow Justice secretary and the point he is making is bigger than Nottingham trams.
I understand he may not be to your liking but I struggle to understand how any law abiding citizen of any political persuasion can have an issue with someone calling out lawlessness and the incompetence of the authorities tasked with preventing it.
Whose side are you on ?
So you're querying TfL's estimate but happy with one MP on a day out making his best guess...

"I'm doin' my own research" energy is still strong in these people.

My Mrs who works in a Sainsbury's local tells me shoplifting is up - I asked by how much I get "I don't know we all just feel it is" - she is in the frontline day after day doing her own research with her colleagues and condense it down to a feeling no actual figures.

14 years of Government and the likes of him did nothing.
Oh that's alright then. In that context fare evasion and disregard for the law is acceptable is it ?
There is no defending the last government, that said Jenrick to his credit did have the decency to resign his post when it became clear he would not be allowed to actually carry out his brief.
I do not understand why you would prefer to ignore this issue and ridicule someone who raised it because they don't sit on the same side of the political divide as you. If we cannot all agree this is wrong then we are surely fucked .

Jenrick was one of the self-serving snot holes who got the country into this state during the Conservative reign before the current government took over.
Maybe he's born again and seen the light...?
Walking down the high street today, drug dealer type mooching up and down with his track suit bottoms down below his arse cheeks, underwear open to the world.Piles of litter everywhere. Everyone looking beaten down. Did he give a shit before his party lost power?
I understand the sentiment in regards the last government as a whole though I feel Jenrick deserves some credit for resigning from his position in the government in protest at its torpor and the restrictions it placed on his actions.
I think he did see the light during his time at the Home office, he is certainly a different animal from his Cameron days.

oh so you do, do your own research - and whatever you see is representative of everything and what you see on your commute is far more accurate than the data gathered by the people who run the transport systems?
Data is gathered via the cameras that are monitored in a large building at the back of Victoria station. British transport police are responsible for it but is run through a private contractor. A friend's kid used to work there, it is a shambles. Constant staff shortages, equipment failure etc. The numbers are patched up as required and in some cases just blatantly manipulated to be whatever BTP or TFL want them to be.
I knew that when I asked you the question, the point was for you to ask yourself the question of how anyone could really accurately measure these numbers given the scale of the Tube network. See the rely to you from @Brewster's millions - he understood what I was saying straight away.
Think for yourself . Your own eyes , your own ears .

This is why some people think the Earth is flat. They look outside, see a flat, open field and bingo, the Earth must be flat and no amount of evidence will convince them otherwise.

You are the same. Facts, figures, evidence all dumped in favour of your own personal experience and like flat earthers, any attempt to point out the absurdity of their argument is immediately dismissed as a false narrative, and a conspiracy to hide ‘sinister’ objectives.

And, no, there is no way I’m ever going to be on the side of Jenrick and his merry band of dribbling, braindead wankstains.
Absurd - see my reply above to @bluethrunthru in respect to the absurdity of taking TFL's numbers at face value, as I said @Brewster's millions understood straight away, I am surprised at you.
As for the value of personal observation, I won't try and convince you but as you would prefer some stats here we go.

Its not just me is it.
As for the conspiracy theorist angle and dribbling braindead wankstains , I saw you calling out a poster for abuse and tone last week and another poster then suggested that perhaps you had a look in the mirror, seems you haven't taken his advice.
The second time I have said this to you Bob, you do not practice what you preach.

He deserves no credit, whatsoever. He’s the very definition of a self centred career politician.
He’d only deserve credit if he stood for the Absolute Wankers Party…..

They would, but they are paid to do a job.
I agree they should not put themselves in danger but their passivity over this issue has brought us to where we are now and Jenrick's video highlights there was enough around at that station on that day to be far more pro-active - it appeared it wasn't even on the agenda.
Anyway seems TFL are going to recruit an additional team of 500 to deal with it outside of the station staff so things should improve.

Ah,
Now this might help you get it.
So given what your Mrs and her colleagues tell you , if the government then told you that shoplifting was going down, despite everything you actually know about shoplifting - would you believe the government?
If the answer is yes then tell your Mrs that , she will hopefully shove your dinner up your arse to wake you up.

That’s an opinion poll. The only thing it is evidence of is peoples opinion of what they saw or think they saw. Around 20% of Brits think they have seen alien spacecrafts buzzing overhead. This is not proof aliens exist.

Again, you are choosing emotion over facts and embarrassing yourself. It isn’t a good look.

The ONS reported a 20% increase in recorded shoplifting offences in 2024. Personal observation backed up by official Govt figures. I think @bluethrunthru arse is safe from the coq-au-vin

Good grief. A supermarket (or anyone else with stock) knows how much goes missing without being paid for. When your product is a train carrying a thousand people, and it's possible to board without a valid ticket, any estimate of fare evasion is just that, an estimate, and one random* MP spending an hour or two running after people he thinks haven't paid does not a statistic make.

* random as in found to have acted unlawfully to benefit a developer he sat next to at a Tory fundraising dinner and who then gave a donation to the Tory Party (after Jenrick rushed through his planning decision).

Has anyone stuck a camera in Richard Desmond's face and asked him whether he offered a donation if he got what he wanted in his dealings with the "Marxists" at the council?

The issue of fare dodging may very well be on the rise; it stands to reason given the way antisocial behaviour and attitudes are on the rise. However, the fundamental reason for this breakdown at a state level (social media will also be playing a part) is the reduction in resources being deployed to law and order over the last fifteen years, a period within which ASB issues have manifestly worsened.

So the **** is part of the problem.

And to correct sone previous posts, Jenrick is not the MP for Nottingham, which wouldn’t elect an Tory in a month of Sundays, but rather Newark, which is rather apt as it is an anagram for what he is.

People are thinking this because of nutters like Jenrick posting ''about the problem'' its like asking the population about the number of ''boat people'' ....... many will say it's far a much larger number than the circa 30.000 it actually is.

Truth doesn’t matter anymore. Any source that publishes figures that don’t support your narrative will be attacked for something else that they’ve done in their existence, meaning all of their future figures should be deemed untrustworthy.

It happens on both sides.

Then, once the source has been “undermined”, the narrative can be set by what the poster has seen with their own eyes. (Even though said posters previous post history probsbly include something that they’ve said is wrong, and as a result all their subsequent fact posting should be deemed as untrustworthy as per their logic)

Oh come on Bob,
" They think they saw" really , like aliens then maybe fare evaders don't really exist ! that is gaslighting on a grand scale.
I am embarrassing myself ? - FFs get a look in that mirror !
