"He has done this at some risk to his own safety"...What is funny?
Jenrick has highlighted that fare evasion on the tube is endemic. From his observations he estimates that one in 25 passengers haven't paid. From my own experience I would say that may not be too far off the mark . Therefore TFL are losing 4% of revenue to fare evasion - that is a £100 Million p.a. this is not a small issue and the problem is growing. The law abiding majority pay for this, as they pay for the epidemic of shoplifting that similarly goes unchallenged.
He has done this at some risk to his own safety whilst security and TFL staff look the other way, TFL have since confirmed that their staff are not to challenge fare evaders.
Where does this end ?
We need more of this, well done Jenrick for calling this out and being on the side of the law abiding majority who chose to pay their way.
Whose side are you on ?
And TfL staff wouldn't be at risk?
Hence the TfL targeted approach to fare evasion.
