Leroy Sané

Bit of a backward step for him, in my opinion. I'm pretty sure that the Turkish league wouldn't be as strong as the Bundesliga. And you get the feeling that his career hasn't been as stellar as it looked like it was going to be when he was with us. Or am I wrong about that? He was dynamite for a couple of seasons. But in his last fully fit season, iirc, he wasn't an automatic pick for the first team; he was on the bench for a few games in that season.

What a shame his career has gone this way. Could have been an actual legend for us. Forced the move to Bayern because of his mum, his Mrs then spent 50% of her time back in Manchester.

He's set for life money wise, but I feel he could have actually been proper class if he'd stayed with us. No one outside City fans will mention Leroy Sanè once he's retired.

He’s on silly wedge yeah, but he’ll be over there until he’s 32. Shame to waste the last of your prime years.

clearly a lot of money p/w but a classic case of it’s inflated because it’s a free transfer. Almost like how Aaron Ramsey of all players was on the same at Juve. They’ve basically spread a transfer fee on top of his wages to make it the best offer.

When he was on it he was fantastic to watch. But it didn't happen consistently enough. He's taken on a sort of mythical status with a lot of fans because of how good he was on his day. I remember at the time it was often a comparison to Sterling with the belief Sane would be the better player. But 100 goals in 355 games for City and Bayern for Sane vs 131 in 339 at City for Sterling suggests otherwise.

Sane's missus is very much her own woman, I'd imagine he's in for an even longer commute now! Always struck me she was more into City than he was.

Very likely he'll have a Champions League medal missing from his collection at the end of his career. Though as he sits on his pile of cash who knows whether than will bother him?

Who else was in for him? I know there were links to the prem but that never materialised any further so probably bollocks. If he had the choice between Turkey and Saudi for that money then fair play to him for going to Gala.

He’s played for us and Munich so had a good chance to win a CL but never happened. Has happened to plenty of great players over the years.

The combination of him being left out of Germany's squad for the 2018 World Cup and then him getting that massive knee injury in 2019 killed off any chance of him being a genuine top talent imo. He's just never quite going at Bayern for whatever reason. He probably joined them at just the wrong time, literally by a matter of months.

If he'd been picked for Germany in 2018 then he probably wouldn't have felt the need to go to Bayern for the sake of his international career, which means he wouldn't have spent the second half of the 18/19 season sulking and stinking the place out. On that run of 14 straight wins to the title he started five games and completed 90 mins once (vs. Cardiff).

By the time of the Community Shield in August 2019, when he got injured, he was already out the door. I remember a £60m fee for Bayern was all but agreed. But if he was in Pep's plans for the rest of the season he might have been rested that day against Liverpool and he might not picked up that injury. So who knows what would have happened.

As others have said, I love Leroy, seeing him say goodbye to Kevin the other week was very emotional, and he was exciting to watch on his day. But he has taken on almost mythical status with some City fans, especially on here. Apart from that 17/18 season he never really looked that consistent. The reception he gets compared to Raheem Sterling baffles me.

I think this is a good summary.

At times I thought a young Leroy Sane could go on to become our Gareth Bale, I genuinely thought he had the talent (and pace) to be that good. Some of his play, goals and set pieces were superb.

Yet he would also frustrate the hell out of me on occasion, going missing in games and appearing a little lazy/disinterested. That could have been the inexperience of youth, or an application issue, I'm not sure. But it seemed Pep shared the same frustration and Leroy was never quite the same after a combination of links to Bayern and the bad injury he suffered.

The amount of people on this thread who were pushing for the club to bring him back was puzzling to me. As you said, he wasn't consistent, particularly after the 17/18 season, when he was brilliant for us. If he could produce that level of performance 7 or 8 games in every 10, I'd have been all in favour of him coming back. But he was never likely to do that. In his last season with us that he was fully fit he wasn't an automatic, guaranteed starter. Pep benched him a few times, IIRC. And as long as Pep was going to be here, he was unlikely to bring Leroy back. I'm pretty sure he wasn't happy with the way Sane (and his mother) engineered the move to Bayern.

Where are they getting that money from?!
Not sure how accurate this is but if Chelsea can do it, why not.

"Sky Sport Deutschland reports that Galatasaray are poised to go to extraordinary lengths this summer to achieve their ambitions in the transfer market, with a sale of their training facilities earmarked around €800-900 million in order to flood their first team with talent"
