Running thread

It's the little wins, and one was had this morning when I ran into work for the first time, just over 6k.

There's no way that I'd have believed I'd have ever done that a few months ago when I started running!

Took all my stuff into the office yesterday so all I had to do today was run in, forgot arguably the most important thing though, a towel!!

I would love to run to work - good on you mate.

Unfortunately, I'm a sweaty bastard so it would be unfair to inflict this on the people around me. I know that some workplaces have showers which is great for encouraging healthy behaviours among staff.

I used to live and work in London. As part of my job, I had free access to the swimming pools in Westminster - and there was one almost next door to my place of work. I would cycle or run about 8 miles from Hackney / Haringey to Westminster then go for a swim & shower before work. I absolutely loved this routine and it was such a positive way to start the day.

You're right, it's such a good way to start the day, and just encourages you to a) have a good day b) make positive choices

I do agree with your opinion on getting out in the morning as it just sets you up nicely

I should have added into my previous post, that I did have a shower at work, just had to dry myself on a spare tshirt that I had lurking in my bag!

Whens your 40th? Will send you a reminder ;-)

I'm a few weeks off 6 years no booze. Much prefer it

Sept 01st

Before that I have a mates 40th this Saturday, work summer party next week, stereophonics Finsbury Park Friday after, Oasis gig at London and Manchester, Geneva work trip and other stuff. all will involve to much booze. Impossible to do all this and be on track for running, something will have to give.

Not sure if you're actually seeking advice or just wanting a rant.

But do seriously consider everything going on in your life, especially surrounding the social aspects, and the impact its having on other areas of your life.

There's so much more to life than drinking excessively, especially when it's perhaps not even something you're actually keen to be doing, and also having a negative impact on an aspect of your life that could be so positive (running!).

Either way, it sounds like you're at least talking about it/considering a change in lifestyle, but do give it some serious thought before you lose out on running which sounds like something you seem to really enjoy.

How are we getting on in the heat, lads? I made a little video on the topic recently. Top tip: get out early!

Also, I'm on the lookout for recommendations for shorts - especially for race day. Something comfortable with no inner lining. I need one or more zip pockets for my key, earbuds and a couple of gels. Bonus points if they look good and/or make me as fast as Kipchoge.

It must cost a fortune. Do you know how much? If you can afford to piss so much money up the wall and are happy to do so then go for it.

I like a few beers too. Health and financial impacts prevent over indulgence.

By cycling ! Especially downhill. It's a bit hot going uphill though. Averaging about 100 miles a week commuting at the moment. I run much less in summer. Mixing up the cycling and running is great for keeping motivated and avoiding injury. Until I fall off my bike!

Thought I would try Delamere Forest parkrun this morning. Approached and music event is on later today. Thankfully the parkrun was still on.

The route was partly shaded with the trees around the lake. Still ended up very hot at the finish. 33mins the time.

Completed Nobles Parkplod in Douglas, Isle of Man in 33:53. It was very hot, but a very enjoyable course.
Just seen that on your Strava mate, I lived in Douglas for five years, never even knew that park was there!!
Infairness it was 25 years ago and I lived a completely different lifestyle...work/drink/work/drink, funny as I looked at the map and I lived about four streets away from the parkrun so must have passed it thousands of times on my way to the pub

Well, work related piss ups are free, I have a company card and can rinse it for as much as I want in posh restaurants and bars in London - whilst this is a massive perk and I can get away taking the Mrs and pals to places it does also involve taking now younger clients out for a drink up when I really can’t be arsed!

Gigs and local drinks are totting up and it’s not just beers that I end up buying ,so yeh it’s to much money and a negative on health. Looking forward to the long break.

I run at least 4 times to work and back, got rid of the car and haven’t looked back. Little backpack to carry what I need and get a shower at work. Complete over 100 miles a month now and not having to drag my arse back out in the evening after a long day in work, all done by 5pm and wish I’d done it sooner.
